Obasa, 4 Lagos Assembly Members Hold Plenary Session…Steven Ogundipe , 35 Others Fume…Meranda’s Security Detail Restored

Hon Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed as Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly on January 13, 2025, had his security detail restored on Thursday, and he also presided over a plenary session at the parliament chamber on the same day
He had arrived at the Assembly Complex at about 12 pm and headed straight to the Speaker’s office .

Obasa reportedly engaged the services of his strong supporters to force the door open before moving to the parliament chamber for the same purpose.
Four members of the House of Assembly attended the plenary session that he presided over.
‘I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not a democrat’ Obasa later told journalists on Thursday.
Members of the House of Assembly, who had Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Steven Ogundipe as their spokesman, have however declared that they are not in support of Obasa’s return as Speaker.
Ogundipe, who claimed that 36 lawmakers are in support of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, urged the leaders of the ruling party, APC , to intervene and ensure that normalcy returns to the House of Assembly.
‘We were approached by our leaders that we should remain calm and take things easy. But we are surprised to see what is happening here today.
We won’t take laws into our hands, just as we have told the staff not to take laws into our hands. But we all belong to different constituencies, and we have our mandate. Whatever has to happen, the leadership should speak with us and not this charade we are seeing.
We are not happy; we have been law-abiding. We have not gone out of our way against the state. We also want to be respected and to be given our dignity. To be shown that we are elected. I’m appealing to the leadership of our party that we cannot continue this way’ he said.
Sources however told Team@orientactualmags.com that the lawmakers who have expressed opposition to Obasa’s return as Speaker, are only doing this to create an opportunity and platform for ‘bargaining’.
The source added that more than three among the sons of members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) , who are state lawmakers, were involved in the removal of Obasa as Speaker and they have all entered the president’s bad books.
The president had right from his governorship days in Lagos determined who becomes head of the state parliament and he was shocked that someone occupying such an office could be removed without his approval.
Tinubu still regards Lagos State as his ‘political base’ and he was worried that the governor or anyone can also be impeached without seeking his approval .
‘The president was very angry, and he even felt more incensed that the Director General of DSS could not have access to such an important information and inform him. Three DSS officers attached to the House of Assembly have been detained for days now and a disciplinary hearing may be held for them
The lawmakers who are saying they do not want Obasa are only doing that so that a meeting can be held where they will be assured that no one will victimize them and it will also be a platform to demand for the committees they want’ the source added
In the meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Moshood Jimoh presided over a press conference on Thursday evening during which he disclosed that Meranda’s security detail has been restored.
He noted that the security detail was initially withdrawn because an audit of all policemen attached to VIPs in the state was carried out by the police command.

‘Lagos with a population of about 20 million persons have 18,000 police personnel. This is grossly inadequate for a state like Lagos which is the centre of excellence.
The audit will help us to know those on illegal duty, those who are where they are not supposed to be. Once the audit is completed, we start to reassign them to Divisions and Post to help in policing the state effectively’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
