Leadership Crisis: Acting Clerk Asks Workers To Stay Away From Lagos Assembly Complex

Sequel to the leadership crisis that has left two people laying claim to the ‘speakership’ of the Lagos State House of Assembly, staff and legislative aides have been directed to work remotely until further notice.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the directive was issued on Sunday by the Acting Clerk of the House of Assembly, Babatunde Abubakar, in a memo he sent to the staff and legislative aides.
The acting Clerk in the memo titled ‘Amendment to Remote Work Schedule Arrangement’ noted that this was done to ensure safety of staff and prevent any potential violence as a result of the leadership dispute.
‘To this end, all categories of staff at the Assembly, LAHASCOM, and legislative aides are requested to work remotely from home until further notice’ he said.
The acting Clerk assured workers of the commitment of Speaker Mojisola Meranda to their safety and a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
Recall that leadership crisis started in the state House of Assembly following the removal of Hon Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker on January 13, 2025.
Hon Mudashiru Obasa had won a sixth term in March 2023, and had on June 6,2023, gotten elected as Speaker for the third time
Hon Mojisola Meranda made history on Monday, January 13, 2025, by becoming the first woman to serve as Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly since the creation of the state on May 27, 1967.
However, Hon Mudashiru Obasa, who had his security detail restored last week Thursday, also presided over a plenary session at the parliament chamber on the same day
He had arrived at the Assembly Complex at about 12 pm and headed straight to the Speaker’s office .
Obasa had also filed a lawsuit against Meranda, the Lagos Assembly, and 36 lawmakers, challenging his removal. The state high court, Ikeja, has set March 7, 2025, for the hearing of the case.
Recall that Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro had in a circular he issued, officially recognized the leadership change in the house of assembly and urged staff to support the new Speaker and the Acting Clerk-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
