IWD 2025: Gov Abdulrazaq Emphasizes Role Of Women In Ensuring Development, Social Cohesion, Progress
As the world celebrates the International Women’s Day today, Saturday, March 8, 2025, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, has emphasized the role of women in ensuring development, social cohesion and progress while noting that they are ‘critical stakeholders in our society’.
The governor, who is the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in a statement he issued to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com expressed recommitment to empowering ‘our women’ and creating more opportunities for them to thrive.
‘On this International Women’s Day 2025, I celebrate women in Kwara State and across the world for their resilience, creativity, and the joy that they bring to every space they occupy.
Women are critical stakeholders in our society and in our quest for sustainable development. They play important roles in development, social cohesion, and progress. Our administration recognises this, and we have continued to promote initiatives, policies, and legislations that protect the rights of women and offer equitable opportunities.
The theme of this year’s celebration is Accelerate Action. I believe we have measured up to this in Kwara — and will do more. From making history with our female majority cabinet in 2019, we now have a pathfinder law that guarantees at least 35 percent affirmative action for every government appointment. We also enacted the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law, ensuring a safer environment for our girls and women and every other person. We have, among other things, keyed into the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme to get more girls enrolled in school and make their learning journey an exciting experience.
On this special day, I recommit myself to empowering our women and creating more opportunities for them to thrive.
Happy International Women’s Day!’ the governor submitted.
In separate statement issued on behalf of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Governor Abdulrazaq noted that the Forum stands in firm solidarity with the Nigerian women, while praising their resilience and struggles for a fair society, and their immeasurable contributions to a more equitable world.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), he noted, is committed to pushing policies and initiatives that give voice to and promote the wellbeing of women and the girl child.
“The NGF will continue to work with various stakeholders and women organizations to sustain the gains so far made in gender parity and women empowerment, and commit more resources to accelerate action in pending areas of concern.
My colleagues and I at the NGF congratulate Nigerian women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day and reassure them of sustained commitment to a more inclusive and safer environment for them to thrive’ the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
