Atiku Reacts To Wave Of PDP Defections, Calls It ‘Core Democratic Rights’
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Friday reacted to the wave of PDP defections noting that freedom of association and expression are core ‘democratic rights’ and not ‘privileges’.
Team@orientactualmahs.com learned that the Waziri Adamawa, who gave his take on the issue in a statement he released on X.com, noted that importance must be attached to the pillars of a just and functional democratic society
‘Let me be unequivocal: freedom of association and expression are not optional in a democracy — they are fundamental rights.
Alongside these stand the pillars of a just and functional democratic society: the people, the rule of law, credible elections, and accountability. Undermine any of these, and democracy itself begins to crumble’ he wrote.
Recall that there has been a wave of PDP defections since the beginning of this year, while Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, his immediate predecessor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and other top PDP leaders in the state also left the party for APC on Wednesday.
