2027: Gov Duoye Diri Threatens To Fire Political Office Holders Who Engage In Politicking

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has noted that the nation’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is yet to release guidelines for the forthcoming 2027 General Election, political office holders in the state should therefore not engage in politicking in any form at least for now.

 Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Governor Diri, who gave this warning on Wednesday during the 162nd meeting of the state executive council in Yenagoa, added that any of his appointees found engaging in political activities would be sacked.

He noted that although everyone has the right to eye any political office, it is however disappointing that  some people have decided to heat up the polity when it is not yet time for politicking.

He added that things should be done in line with INEC’s stipulated guidelines.

Diri said his administration is focused on governance and programmes that would develop the state and should not be distracted by unnecessary political activities while urging the people of the state to engage in other profitable ventures rather than engaging in politicking when it is not yet time to do so.

‘I would like to advise politicians to follow the guidelines of political activities as enunciated by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Even the Bible tells us that there is time for everything.

This is the time for governance, and we have started hearing public statements on the radio about who is contesting for one office or the other.

I advise all of us to refrain from politicking and wait for INEC’s guidelines, particularly for political appointees. If you want to heat up the polity, please resign.

 Going forward, any political appointee who goes on air to talk about 2027 politics would be sacked.

Any political appointee who engages in political activities when it is not yet time, and it is brought to my knowledge, consider yourself sacked, no matter your office’ he said.

Governor Diri also urged those who are not holding political office for now to look for other economic activities that will bring development to the state as politicking cannot be considered as what will happen all year round in the state.

 ‘Elections will hold in 2027, but some people want to play God when they do not even know if they will see 2027. I am not praying for anybody’s death’ he said.

The governor also noted that for anyone seeking public office, there are established laws and procedures in the country, including a timetable for political activities submitting that power comes only from God.

He advised politicians in the state to suspend their political ambitions and dramas for now adding that everyone will freely engage in politicking once INEC releases the official guidelines.

‘As a political appointee, that has to stop today.
