Chidera Ako, 21 years old, has been arrested and taken into custody by the police in Enugu State for faking his own abduction. He had also made his parents part with N2 million as ransom.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the state police command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement he issued in Enugu on Tuesday, added that an ex-convict , Ossai Chigozie, is one of the three people arrested for being Ako’s accomplices.

Cops attached to Nsukka Sector of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested the four suspects on May 24, at about 1p.m., and they were arrested for conspiracy, fake abduction, and for tricking Ako’s parents into paying ₦2 million as ransom.

The suspects are Chidera Ako, 21; Chidalu Okechukwu, 19, Ifeanyi Ugwu, 20; and Ossai Chigozie, 35.

‘Ako was reported missing on May 4. Subsequently, on May 21, his accomplices used his phone to demand a ₦10 million ransom from his parents, sending a video of him bound, appearing beaten, with the recovered gun pointed at him.

The parents pleaded for his release and paid ₦1.5 million into a provided  bank account on May 22, but the suspects failed to release him.

After an additional ₦.5 million payment, cops swiftly arrested Ako and his accomplices at a POS centre during their attempt to withdraw the money’ he said.

Ndukwe added that the suspects have confessed to committing the crime and would be arraigned after the completion of ongoing investigations.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Mamman Giwa, he noted, has described the criminal act as unfortunate while directing that anyone who has connection with the case should be arrested and detained.

He has also urged the public to report suspected abduction cases immediately and avoid hasty ransom payment, emphasizing that ‘some cases, like this one, may be fake’-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
