Kwara NewsDirect Newspaper Correspondent Dies In Ilorin…Unilorin VC, NUJ, Correspondents’ Chapel Offer Condolences

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, led tributes to Mr Saka Laro, a veteran journalist, who died in Ilorin on Wednesday.

Mr Saka Laro, who died at 73, was until his passing on Wednesday, the Kwara State correspondent of Nigerian NewsDirect newspaper.
Islamic funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) was held for him at his residence in Ilorin on Wednesday morning.
The Vice-Chancellor in a statement issued by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun described the late Mr Laro as an outstanding and well-trained journalist.
He recalled the several contributions of the departed journalist and his publication to the promotion of peace and understanding between the university and members of the public.
Prof. Egbewole sympathized with the leadership and members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the loss of this distinguished member.
He also commiserated with the management and staff of the News Direct Newspaper as well as the family, friends and colleagues of the late journalist.
Prof. Egbewole asked Allah to forgive the shortcomings of late Mr Laro and rest his soul in Aljanat Fridaouz while also asking Him to comfort his wife and children.
In a joint statement by its Chairman, Ahmed ’Lanre Abdullateef, and Secretary, Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has also expressed grief over Laro’s passing, describing it as both shocking and unfortunate.
‘The news of Mr Saka Laro’s passing came as a devastating blow to all of us. He was not only a dedicated journalist but also a committed member of our great union. His death is a painful reminder of the fragility of life’ the statement said.
Kwara NUJ extended its condolences to the immediate family of the deceased journalist, the Correspondents’ Chapel, and the entire journalism fraternity in Kwara State, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
‘Mr Laro’s contribution to journalism and his unwavering commitment to truth and professionalism will not be forgotten. He left behind a legacy of integrity and excellence’ the statement added.
The NUJ also asked Almighty Allah to forgive Laaro’s shortcomings and grant him eternal bliss in paradise.
‘May the Almighty console his family, friends, and colleagues, and may his soul find peace with his Maker’ Kwara NUJ added.
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, has also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaji Saka Laro.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Abdulhakeem Garba, and Secretary, Kayode Abdulazeez, the union expressed its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late journalist, the Daudu Agaka family in Ilorin West Local Government, and the entire NUJ family in Kwara State over the painful loss.
The statement described Alhaji Saka Laro as a thoroughbred professional who distinguished himself with humility, professionalism, and admirable leadership qualities throughout his career.
