Lagos: Those Seeking To Replace Gov Sanwo-Olu Lose Out As President Tinubu Says His ‘Sins’ Are ‘Cancelled’

Lagos: Those Seeking To Replace Gov Sanwo-Olu Lose Out As President Tinubu Says His ‘Sins’ Are ‘Cancelled’

Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu’s past sins are forgiven and it can no longer be held against him, President Bola Tinubu has declared.

This was good news to the governor’s supporters and loyalists, who had been worried about a potential unpleasant event and the eid-li-adha celebration has therefore ended on a good note for them.

Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, who had faced ‘silent battles’ since March this year, had spent the better part of last week trying to mend fences with President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that the governor had entered the bad books of the president and his main ‘promoter’ Chief (Mrs.) Remi Tinubu, following his role in the ‘temporary removal’ of Hon Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of Lagos State house of assembly.

Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu became the governor of Lagos State in 2019.

Sources said almost all the prominent indigenes or residents of Lagos State, including Alhaji Razaq Okoya and Chief Femi Otedola, who had visited the president since his arrival in Lagos a few days ago, had discussed matters that have to do with the ‘political sins’ committed by Sanwo-Olu with Tinubu and urged him to ‘forgive and forget’.

Team@orientactualmags.com gathered that the president has decided to show the governor mercy while declaring that his ‘sins’ have been ‘cancelled’.

The president granted audience to members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Sunday and it was an opportunity for the governor and those who played roles in the ‘temporary removal’ of Obasa as Speaker to ask for forgiveness.

Interestingly, Obasa, who is a member of the GAC, attended the meeting.

It was gathered that Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu and others did not bother to state their own side of the story but simply took turns to ask for forgiveness while another source said the governor threw himself at the president’s feet and begged for forgiveness.

Chairman of the GAC, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi had noted that it was obvious that Tinubu was not happy with some political figures in the state, especially the governor and he therefore asked him to show mercy.

‘It’s all over now. All is forgiven’ a source quoted the president as saying.

It was not however good news to those who are seeking to replace Sanwo-Olu as governor of Lagos State.

They had shown interest in the ‘seat’ having gotten aware that the president had insisted that the governor should either resign or get impeached.

The governor had for months now gotten haunted by his role in the ‘temporary removal’ of Obasa as Speaker of the state House of Assembly and the scenario enacted during an event in the state a few days ago had made the governor know that there was ‘fire on the mountain’.

Sources had told Team@orientactualmags.com in April that the president had insisted that the governor should either resign or get impeached, apparently Sanwo-Olu had asked people around the president to help intervene since ‘the resignation or impeachment message’ did not come directly from him but through some stakeholders.

Sanwo-Olu had simply continued with his governorship duties and responsibilities believing that the situation had been kept under control until the president snubbed him during the inauguration ceremony of the first 30-kilometre stretch of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway a few days ago.

Realizing that remedial steps are required to be taken quickly during ‘hurried times’, there were hurried meetings during which they came up with measures to be taken and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu and other stakeholders were quickly contacted and the governor’s ‘men’ pleaded with them to intervene.

With the president’s presence in Lagos , they were conscious of the fact that it will be easy for him to coordinate and give directives that may lead to Sanwo-Olu’s impeachment and it will not be advisable to delay action.

Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that notwithstanding the declaration by the president that Sanwo-Olu’s sins are cancelled, the governor’s loyalists will not relax efforts as he will still need to seek audience with Tinubu and further pledge his unwavering loyalty while also taking measures to ensure a return to the good old days of ‘excellent relationship’.

Talking to journalists after the meeting on Sunday, Governor Sanwo-Olu , who called Tinubu our ‘father’ and ‘leader’, commended the president for supporting his administration while urging Nigerians to support the current administration at the federal level.

He also said members of the GAC were at the president’s residence for sallah homage.

‘We all came around to felicitate him, to pray with him and wish him well and to inform him that Lagosians and everyone is happy with him and that we can feel and see the impact of what he has done in the last two years and wish him well that he has our best wishes and support at all times’ he added.

Another source told our reporter that those seeking to take Sanwo-Olu’s position would be going back to the drawing board and they will come up with fresh strategies to ensure that he continues to get haunted by his past ‘political sins’ -Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
