The National Union of Kebbi state Students, NUKESS, has passed a vote of confidence in Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state and also honoured him for revolutionizing education in the state.
Bagudu’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that the NUKESS leaders and members did this during their visit to the Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
They were there to congratulate the governor on the 62nd independence anniversary of Nigeria and the award was presented to the governor by the President of the union, Comrade Muhammad Majo.
The governor, who appreciated the award , urged students at tertiary institutions in the country to contribute to the development of their alma maters.
Bagudu said that such efforts can be done by donating books and other facilities to their former schools.
Funding of education should according to him be a collective responsibility although the government had done its best in spite of the fact that only limited resources were available.
Bagudu, who is the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum , further urged them to take the lead in interrogating how the world, Nigeria and Kebbi state will look like in the next 62 years.
Describing NUKESS as an important student organization, Bagudu added that more can be done to bolster the education sector at all levels, if we have all hands on deck.
The governor submitted that with collectivity and cooperation, all the challenges in the state and the county will be surmounted.
He acknowledged the efforts of the academics , who had volunteered to be Chairmen of LGEAs, adding that such invaluable sacrifices were now yielding fruits.
Bagudu further described the students as sources of pride and prosperity for the state and Nigeria in general.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu used the opportunity to appeal to lecturers at public universities in the country to summon courage and collaborate with the Federal Government for an immediate return to class.
Earlier, the President of the union, Comrade Muhammad Majo had noted that the visit was to felicitate the governor and the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Anniversary.
Majo described the governor as a visionary leader whose transformation agenda for Kebbi State was unparalleled in the history of the state..
The president also said that with the unblemished leadership of Bagudu, the state will reach the desired destination of growth and development.
He acknowledged the tremendous achievements recorded by the state government at all levels of education.
He said that the governor’s sustained local and foreign sponsorship of students was legendary.
Similarly, the National Staff Adviser, Mallam Bashar Aliyu Buhari lauded the governor for giving Kebbi state students necessary supports, informing the gathering that while in Ukraine, the Governor had taken it upon himself to call individual students to ask them about their general wellbeing.
