KWEPA Seals Off 8 Hotels In Ilorin, Cites Regulatory Infractions

For allegedly operating without the requisite documentation and failing to comply with established regulatory laws governing hospitality industry in the State of Harmony, the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed off 8 hotels in Ilorin, the state capital.

The enforcement exercise, which followed several official notifications and warnings, was carried out by a team led by the Head of Department for Hotels, Mr. Aminullahi Taiye AbdulRahman, who noted that the affected hospitality outfits had been given ample time to regularize their operations but persistently ignored the agency’s directives.

General Manager of KWEPA, Hon. Jide Aina in a statement issued by spokesperson for the agency, Blessing Opadiran which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com asserted that the punitive action was in line with the Kwara State Environmental Law while noting that there was never any intention to intimidate businesses or individuals but added that it is important to take necessary measures to curb environmental infractions and uphold public health standards.

‘This is not about targeting businesses but about ensuring that hospitality operators adhere to both local and international standards. A clean, safe, and healthy environment remains a top priority for the Kwara State Government’ the statement quoted Hon. Aina as saying.

He further noted that enforcing compliance within the hospitality sector will help to protect residents, promote public health, and foster a welcoming environment for investors, tourists and others.

KWEPA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with stakeholders across the hospitality industry to promote sustainable development and environmental responsibility in Kwara State.

The agency also urged other owners of hospitality outfits to comply fully with environmental and operational regulations to avoid similar enforcement measures-Team@orientactualmags.com
