2027 PDP Presidential Primary: Kamal Ajibade’s Clarification On ‘Zoning’ Has Vindicated Our Stance-GHSM

The clarification made by the National Legal Adviser of PDP, Barrister Kamaldeen Ajibade on the recent resolution of the party in respect of its 2027 presidential primary, has vindicated the stance of loyalists and supporters of a presidential hopeful , Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim.

Recall that supporters of Dr Gbenga Olawepo- Hashim across the country had declared that the party’s ‘zoning arrangements’ will not prevent aspirants from other regions from  seeking ‘presidential nomination’ of the party.

Recall also that PDP National Legal Adviser, Barrister Kamaldeen Ajibade had while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme clarified that while ‘zoning’ remains an important tool for equity, it cannot  however override the Nigerian Constitution which guarantees all citizens the right to seek elective office.

‘Even if we say the south should produce our presidential candidate, it will not stop anybody from any part of the country from showing interest. We cannot do things that will contradict the Constitution of Nigeria, which is the grand norm’ Ajibade submitted.

This clarification mirrors the exact line of argument consistently advanced by the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) which had submitted that ‘zoning’ must not be weaponized to exclude competent leaders, particularly from the North.

 They had emphasized that internal party arrangements must never be placed above constitutional provisions.

Reacting to the clarification made by the party’s National Legal Adviser, the Southwest Coordinator of GHSM, Alhaji Abass Olaniyi in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Tuesday, described the development as ‘a major victory for democracy and a vindication of Dr. Hashim’s ideological politics’ adding that the party has chosen the path of fairness and inclusivity.

‘Dr. Olawepo-Hashim, a global businessman- turned politician, has been widely recognized for his issue-based politics and efforts at bridging Nigeria’s North-South divide. His rising popularity, especially in Osun State where he is seen as more influential than President Bola Tinubu, has fueled growing speculation about his presidential ambition ahead of 2027.
