Kwara: Why I Left PDP For ADC-Former Speaker Babatunde Mohammed
Former Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, who was also until last month, the state PDP chairman, Hon Babatunde Mohammed has left the party for ADC.
He cited the seeming intractable intraparty conflict in the PDP especially at the national level.
The former Speaker, who noted that he has never left PDP since joining the party in 2002, added that he was left with no option than to leave the party.
Hon Babatunde Mohammed said this while talking to journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com during the official launch ceremony of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State and the inauguration of the state secretariat of the party in the Fate area of Ilorin on Saturday.
‘I resigned from PDP about three or four days ago, and I am now a member of Kwara State ADC.
Thousands of my supporters across the three senatorial districts in the state have also joined me in defecting to ADC.
I have tried my best for PDP but I think this time around my people and my associates after wide consultation decided that we should leave PDP for ADC knowing full well that since I joined PDP in 2002 there has never been an instance where I left the party for the 23 years that I was a member of the PDP even when almost everybody left for APC, I stayed put in the party.
Ordinarily, I don’t like leaving one party for another but PDP has very serious problems at the national level and as a politician, I don’t believe that the problems in question can be easily resolved before the next General Election therefore my supporters and I have decided to leave PDP for ADC’ he said.
Asked if he thinks he can get the same recognition he had gotten in the PDP in his new party ‘As a former number three citizen in Kwara State, any party that I join I will definitely get due recognition’ he quipped.
‘Well, I am a grassroots politician, it depends on what my people decide, if they ask me to seek an elective office, I will and if it just for me to help my new party as I have been helping PDP for more than two decades now, there is no problem, Iam a politician and a democrat to the core’ Hon Babatunde Mohammed submitted when asked if his name will appear on the ballot in 2027?
The former Speaker, who said thousands of his supporters across the three senatorial districts in Kwara State, have also joined ADC, commended Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for his efforts to get the party firmly established in the country.
‘Well, I appreciate the National Secretary of our party, former governor Rauf Aregbeshola , he has been doing very well and he has visited all the nooks and crannies of the country to ensure that ADC takes over the control of the country in 2027 by the Grace of God’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
