2026 Osun Guber: Adebayo Adedamola Wins PDP Nomination At Primary Held In Osogbo

Despite the ongoing leadership imbroglio and the exit of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the party on Monday night, the PDP still went ahead with its planned gubernatorial primary on Tuesday and the party has produced Mr  Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola ,who is popularly called Fryo, as Osun State governorship candidate.

Gubernatorial election is expected to hold in the State of the Living Spring on August 8, 2026.

Voting had begun after the Secretary of Osun State PDP Primary Electoral Committee, Mr Sunday Solarin, had announced that accreditation of delegates had ended at about 11:35 a.m.

957 delegates were eventually accredited while Fryo got 919 votes .

Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were at the venue while the Primary Electoral committee sent by PDP national headquarters headed by Humphrey Abba supervised the exercise.

The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned’ Hon Humphrey Abba submitted while announcing the results.

For more than a decade now, Fryo, a young politician, has been a popular face in the state PDP. He was one of the foot soldiers of Otunba Iyiola Omisore and his name had become known sequel to the death of the Cicero of Esa-Oke, Chief Bola Ige on December 23, 2001.

Chief Ige, who was then serving as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, was assassinated at his Ibadan residence and Fryo, an indigene of Ile-Ife, was one of those who had charges preferred against them and were later declared acquitted.

Minister of Aviation, Mr Festus Keyamo was then his lawyer while top journalists; Segun Banjo and Femi Davies were his media consultants.

Reacting to the decision of the PDP National Secretariat to go ahead with the planned gubernatorial primary on Tuesday, some members of the party in Osun State, who are supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke, alleged that PDP members from Oyo State acted as delegates at the primary election held at Adolak Hotel, Osogbo while adding that security agencies from the state in question were also deployed to the venue.
