Osun Prominent Politician, Fatahi Diekola, Dies At 69…He Was A Highly Respected Person-Ganiyu Olaoluwa

Neighbours, family members, friends and top politicians in Osun State spoke in sepulchral tones and had mournful facial expressions as news of the death of Alhaji Fatahi Diekola spread on Monday night.

The late Alhaji Fatahi Diekola, a fiery politician, had turned 69 three months ago.

While that of late Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke and Chief Bisi Akande could not be confirmed, those who have served as governors of Osun State from 2003 to date, held the late Diekola, an indigene of Osogbo, in awe.

Although, the late politician was a degree holder, he was however in the mould of late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.

Alhaji Fatahi Diekola, a one-time chairman of Osogbo local government, had warned the then Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola not to appoint Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo as Commissioner in 2003 and when the retired General insisted, he withdrew to his cocoon and later dumped the party, and this had marked the beginning of PDP’s loss of popularity in Osogbo which eventually led to the emergence of Aregbesola as governor in 2010.

Alhaji Fatahi Diekola was one of the most powerful figures during Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s governorship he however parted ways with him ahead of the 2018 governorship election.

He was also until his death on Monday, one of the most reliable friends and associates of the Adeleke dynasty.

The late Alhaji Fatahi Diekola was very close to Dr Deji Adeleke and Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The state Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Alhaji Ganiyu Ayobami Olaoluwa in a statement he issued in Osogbo and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday night mourned the passing of late Alhaji Fatahi Diekola while calling him a highly respected person.

I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of a political stalwart and an icon, an illustrious son of Osogbo, Alhaji Fatai Diekola, the former Executive Chairman of Osogbo Local Government.

Alhaji Diekola was a distinguished personality and a highly respected political leader. I join his political associates, wife, children, and other members of his immediate family in mourning his passing at this painful time.

I pray that Almighty Allah comforts them and grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss. A humble and highly respected person, Alhaji Diekola’s legacy in both the private and public sectors will be remembered with respect and admiration.

His contribution to the success of the current administration in the state will continue to be deeply appreciated.
