Closure Of Oro College Of Education Shows Gov Abdulrazaq Administration Lacks Strategy To Tackle Insecurity-Kwara PDP

Kwara State PDP on Thursday condemned the directive by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, should be shut down on the grounds of safety fears submitting that ‘this latest action confirms that the state government is overwhelmed and has summarily surrendered to the dictates of the bandits and other non-state actors’.

The party added that the current administration in the state has no coherent security strategy and has instead resorted to shutting down educational institutions as a substitute for leadership.

Kwara State PDP in a statement issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Olusegun Olusola Adewara urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to step down if he lacks the capacity, presence, and strategy to tackle insecurity, rather than continuing to shut down educational institutions which will destroy the future of young people in the state.

‘The College of Education, Oro, is not just a school; it is an economic, social, and intellectual backbone of the community where it is located and the entire Kwara south. Shutting it down under any disguise is an admission that the government has lost control of the security situation and is retreating instead of confronting criminals.

To us in PDP, this is not political optics but the future of our state . Education cannot and must not become the casualty of insecurity. A government that claims to be addressing security challenges cannot justify closure of schools while markets and other public spaces remain open. This selective approach exposes a dangerous lack of seriousness and clear thinking.

It is quite unfortunate that whenever challenges arise, education in Kwara South is the first to be sacrificed’ the statement said.

The statement also said communities in the state are being made to suffer the consequences of poor and reactive governance while urging the stakeholders to intervene.

‘The PDP therefore calls on traditional rulers, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders in Kwara to rise up and speak against this backward and dangerous tendency. Silence at this critical moment would amount to complicity in the destruction of the educational future and economic stability of Kwara south region. Even if the governor will not listen , let it be on record that our people speak truth to power when it matters .

No responsible government fights insecurity by closing schools while markets remain open and criminals continue to operate freely. The recent decision on COED Oro is a retreat from governance and an attack on the educational and economic survival of Kwara South.

If the governor cannot protect lives and property, then honour demands that he steps aside instead of shutting down the future of our children’ the party added-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
