Senator Sadiq Umar Delivers Keynote Speech At Mentorship Programme In Ilorin, Urges Nigerian Youths to Embrace Politics, Participate In Governance
Chairman, Senate Committees on Rules & Business and Trade & Investment, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, has called on young Nigerians to take active responsibility in shaping the nation’s future through purposeful engagement in politics, governance, and strategic collaboration with government.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the senator said this at the weekend while delivering his keynote speech during the ‘Dele Shittu Foundation Mentorship Induction and Workshop’ at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Ilorin.
His keynote topic was ‘Power of Politics and Governance: Shaping Society, Driving Change and Defining the Future’.
The senator, who was represented by Hon. Seko Sadiq, a Commissioner II at Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, emphasized that politics and governance are not distant or dirty concepts, but rather powerful tools for societal transformation when driven by integrity, values, and service.

‘Nigerian youths must move from the sidelines into leadership spaces. Sustainable national development will only be achieved when citizens, civil society and government work hand-in-hand to invest in youth development, capacity building and empowerment’ he said.
He commended the Dele Shittu Foundation (DSF), led by Dr. Lanre Shittu, for its visionary commitment to mentoring and equipping young Nigerians with the values, skills and leadership mindset required for national progress while describing the initiative as a model of how non-governmental organizations can complement government efforts in tackling unemployment, leadership deficits and limited opportunities for the young people.
As part of his contribution to the programme, Senator Sadiq donated free copies of his authored book, ‘How I Became a Senator in 30 Days’ to the participants, encouraging them to draw inspiration from real-life leadership journeys and remain intentional about public service and self-development.

The event also witnessed the strong presence of mentees from the Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar Mentorship and Fellowship Programme, Cohort 1, further underscoring the federal lawmaker’s long-standing commitment to youth mentorship, leadership grooming and inclusive governance.
Participants described the session as insightful, inspiring and timely, noting that the engagement has reinforced the importance of values-driven leadership, civic responsibility and collaboration in building a stronger Nigeria.
The Dele Shittu Foundation Mentorship Induction and Workshop marks another significant step in nurturing a new generation of informed, ethical and action-oriented leaders committed to national growth and development-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
