Ladi Hassan Calls Reopening Of Offa Robbery Case ‘Reckless Politicization Of National Tragedy’
Former Chief of Staff, Government House, Ilorin, Alhaji Ladi Hassan has reacted to the decision taken by Kwara State government to reopen the 2018 Offa robbery case calling it a politically motivated action.
Alhaji Ladi Hassan, a Kwara State PDP gubernatorial aspirant, in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com also described the reopening of the case as politicization of a national tragedy.
‘My attention has been drawn to the renewed attempts by the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to revisit issues surrounding the 2018 Offa robbery incident, in a manner that suggests clear political undertones and a troubling disregard for the sensitivity of the matter.
The Offa robbery incident remains one of the darkest moments in the history of Kwara State, with the painful loss of innocent lives, including security personnel and civilians. It is, therefore, deeply disturbing that such a tragedy is being repeatedly dragged into the political space years after the judicial process has run its course and those who were found guilty have been declared convicted.
The fresh moves to link former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, to a matter that has already been addressed by competent courts raise serious questions about intent and timing. This development appears less about justice and more about reviving old narratives for political advantage.
It is important to state clearly that justice is not served by reopening healed wounds or by attempting to rewrite established judicial outcomes. Rather, it is undermined when sensitive issues are weaponised for political gains.
At a time when many communities across Kwara State are grappling with serious security challenges, including attacks, displacement, and growing fear among residents, the priority of any responsible government should be to confront these pressing realities with sincerity and urgency.
Unfortunately, the focus appears to be shifting towards revisiting settled matters instead of addressing present dangers.
I will not stand by and watch the memory of the victims of the Offa tragedy be reduced to a recurring political tool. Their lives mattered, and their memory deserves dignity, not exploitation.
To the families who lost loved ones in that unfortunate incident, I extend my deepest condolences once again. Your pain is not forgotten, and it must never be trivialized for any reason whatsoever. Kwara State deserves leadership that is focused on solutions, security, and development, not one that is preoccupied with blame games and political distractions. The task before us is to build a safer, more united, and more prosperous state for all’ he submitted.
The former top government functionary also urged all well-meaning Kwarans to remain vigilant and committed to the ideals of justice, truth, and responsible leadership-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
