Kaduna Central Senate Seat: Shehu Sanni Obtains APC Nomination Form In Abuja

Former Senator Shehu Sanni, a human right activist, is planning to return to senate and he is seeking to get nominated as Kaduna Central senate candidate by the ruling APC.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Mr Shehu Sanni obtained the APC nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr Shehu Sanni, represented Kaduna Central in the senate from 2015 to 2019. He is seeking to take over the parliament seat from Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, a PDP federal lawmaker.

Interestingly, unlike what happened in 2019 when he faced strong opposition from the then Governor El-rufai in respect of party nomination, it is expected to be smooth sailing for the human right activist this time around cognizant that he is in the good books of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sanni.

Shehu Sanni and former governor Nasir El-rufai, who ended the human right activist’s membership of the senate in 2019, are longtime friends ,who later became rivals.

While they had both sought to get nominated as APC candidate ahead of the 2015 Kaduna State gubernatorial election, El-rufai eventually got the party’s gubernatorial nomination while Sanni became the Kaduna Central senate candidate.

Ahead of the 2019 general election, the former senator had tried to stop El-rufai from getting renominated and sought to have himself emerged as his replacement.

The former governor however fought back decisively. He not only got renominated by the party but also ensured that Mr Shehu Sanni was forced out of the APC.

That was not all, he ensured that the former senator’s best of buddies , Mr  Uba Sanni emerged as   Kaduna Central APC senate candidate.

Shehu Sanni eventually left APC for PRP on October 20, 2018. Mr Uba Sanni  not only won the Kaduna Central senate election in 2019 but also got elected as governor of Kaduna state in 2023.
