Umar Ardo Hints At What’s Coming Next As He Prepares Lawsuit Against NDC

Dr. Umar Ardo, who is one of the promoters of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has given a hint that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) may face ‘litigations’ like other major opposition parties as he has faulted the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the party citing failure to follow due process.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Mr Ardo, who said this during an interview with Trust TV, also noted that the legal action that is imminent will affect other political parties that had according to him failed to meet statutory requirements but however got registered by the electoral body.

Recall that ADA is one of 171 political associations that applied to INEC for registration ahead of the 2027 general election but the electoral body had in February 2026 approved the registration of only two parties.

Professor Joash Amupitan, who is the chairman of INEC, said the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) was recognized as a political party after meeting all requirements, while the NDC was officially recognized following a court order.

The chairman of the electoral body had noted that the associations were assessed in line with Sections 222 and 223 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Sections 75 and 79 of the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.

Mr Ardo has however insisted that the NDC did not go through the official screening and registration process.

‘The Nigerian Democratic Congress obtained registration without properly applying. It did not meet the requirements set by law or INEC guidelines. It is clearly irregular, and we will challenge it in court’ he said.

ADA, he noted, had not only complied fully with INEC requirements, including payment of fees and submission of all necessary documentation, but had even been cleared for the next stage of verification before being denied registration while NDC that had not followed due process was registered and recognized as a political party.

‘We are appealing the process. The NDC did not present the required documents before the court, yet judgment was given in its favour. We will proceed on appeal.  This is not about politics or personalities. I have challenged governments before, including past presidents. This is about due process’ he said.

Getting a party registered outside established legal frameworks, he noted, undermines public confidence in the electoral system while submitting that ADA will continue to pursue justice in courtTeam@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
