CAPA Urges Immediate End To Xenophobic Attacks In South Africa, Says It’s Painful, Unacceptable

CAPA Urges Immediate End To Xenophobic Attacks In South Africa, Says It’s Painful, Unacceptable

The Council of American Peace Advocates (CAPA) has strongly condemned the recurring xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals residing in South Africa, describing the incidents as a dangerous threat to African unity, human dignity, and peaceful coexistence on the continent.

In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its Secretary General, Dr. Rhonda Hardee, the organization expressed deep concern over reports of harassment, intimidation, violent attacks, destruction of businesses, and discrimination allegedly targeted at Nigerians and other Black African immigrants by some South Africans.

Dr. Hardee warned that Africa must not be made to become a continent where fellow Africans are subjected to hatred, violence, and rejection because of nationality or economic struggles.

Ambassador Rhonda Hardee

‘It is painful and unacceptable that fellow Africans seeking legitimate means of survival and contributing positively to society are being subjected to fear, violence, and humiliation. Xenophobia has no place in a civilized and united Africa’ she said.

CAPA emphasized that Nigerians and other African nationals living in South Africa have contributed significantly to the nation’s economy, education, healthcare, entertainment, entrepreneurship, and development, and therefore deserve protection and equal treatment under the law.

The organization called on the Government of South Africa, security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organizations to take urgent and decisive steps to end all forms of xenophobic violence and ensure justice for the victims.

CAPA further urged the African Union, United Nations, and other international human rights bodies to intensify efforts aimed at promoting peace, African solidarity, and protection of migrants across the continent.

‘Africa’s strength lies in unity, brotherhood, and collaboration—not hatred and division. We must reject every ideology that encourages violence against fellow Africans. No nation develops through intolerance’ she added.

The organization urged African youths to resist manipulation, violence, and hate-driven narratives capable of destroying the long-standing relationship among African nations while urging Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to lawful means of engagement whilst the diplomatic and humanitarian efforts continue.

CAPA warned that continued xenophobic attacks can damage regional integration, economic cooperation, and the vision of a united Africa under the African Continental Free Trade and Pan-African development agenda.

‘An injury against one African nation is an injury against Africa as a whole. This is the time for healing, dialogue, justice, and mutual respect’ Dr. Hardee added.

CAPA reaffirmed its commitment to peace advocacy, conflict resolution, humanitarian intervention, and the promotion of intercultural harmony across Africa and the global community.
