2027 Kwara Guber: Dan Iyan Proved Right As Gov Abdulrazaq Endorses Yahaya Seriki’s Candidacy…It’s Reward Of Loyalty-Tejidini…Sulaiman Abubakar Backs Out Of Race
Ahead of the 2027 Kwara State governorship election, the state governor, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Tuesday endorsed Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki’s candidacy.
With the declaration of support for the top businessman’s candidacy, the governor has made it clear that he will be backing him in the upcoming gubernatorial primary of the state APC.
Alhaji Yahaya Seriki, who is popularly called Amber, will be competing with Senator Saliu Mustapha, Mr Dele Belgore SAN, and others for the party’s gubernatorial nomination in the direct primary that will be held on Thursday.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who announced his decision to endorse Yahaya’s candidacy in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com, noted that he has no doubt about his capacity while adding that ‘his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time’.
He also called Alhaji Yahaya Seriki a pro-people, astute, and broad-minded person.
‘Following extensive consultations with party structures and leadership, I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has been a great political mobiliser with profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State. I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time.
While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primary election, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continued success of the party as we hold our gubernatorial primary on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimize the noble aspirations of our people. But in a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time.
Finally, I acknowledge and commend the statesmanship of our aspirants, all of who have shown discipline and impressive capacity to build on the undeniable achievements of our administration over the last seven years for the good of the people of Kwara State’ he said.’
The development recorded on Tuesday has proved Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud right.
Recall that the outspoken politician, who was a guber aspirant, had not only backed out of the race but also declared support for the successful entrepreneur and business leader’s candidacy.
Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud, who was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Dan’ Iyan of Kaiama in 2010, issued a statement a few days ago, thanking the governor for supporting Alhaji Yahaya Seriki’s candidacy.
He had also urged Kwarans at home and in the Diaspora, especially the co-aspirants to support Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki’s candidacy in the interest of the future of the state.
Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Yakubu Salihu Danladi has urged support for him, a development that confirmed that he has backed out of the 2027 gubernatorial race.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, Hon Danladi noted that as a committed and loyal party member, he welcomes Governor Abdulrazaq’s decision to endorse the top businessman’s candidacy.
‘The endorsement of my good brother and ally, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki MFR as a preferred candidate to fly the guber ticket of our party by His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON is a welcome development and as a committed and loyal party member with absolute belief in the leadership of the Governor as our undisputed leader, I align myself with the endorsement in deference to the party’s supremacy.
Amba as he is fondly called is someone with whom I share deep and mutual respect, his endorsement is highly merited as the number one supporter and friend of the governor and our government, a successful businessman would be coming on board with a lot to offer and to consolidate the achievements of our leader, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
At this junction, the right thing to do for every loyal party member is to queue behind Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as our leader in his wisest choice of his successor, close rank and continue to work for the victory of our party in the 2027 general election and beyond’ he submitted.
In the meanwhile, General Manager of Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Dr. Tejidini Abdulwasiu Olayinkan (Yaro Sardauna of Ilorin), has congratulated Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki Gambari on being endorsed by Governor Abdulrazaq calling this a reward of loyalty.
Dr. Tejidini added that Seriki’s candidacy is acceptable to all APC members in Kwara State while noting that he has been a loyal, committed and true party man. He also praised the top businessman’s loyalty to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
‘In Kwara APC, he stood with the governor during the thin and thick time, he identified himself with the people, and he has consistently been spending his hard-earned resources for the relief of the party faithful and all Kwara indigenes’ he said.
Dr Tejidini thanked Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who is the leader of the party in the state, for rewarding loyalty and sacrifices.
He prayed that Almighty Allah continues to guide him.
‘On behalf of the Yaro Sardauna of Ilorin Crew, I congratulate my progress and committed brother, Amb, Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki Gambari, the incoming governor of Kwara State (Insha Allah)’ he added.
Talking to journalists on his arrival at the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport , Ilorin on Tuesday evening, Alhaji Yahaya Seriki says the whole Kwarans are happy while noting that before now he had been telling people ‘no matter who you are, where you are what you are or what you think you are’ power is transient.
He asserted that he had before now been a man of the people, also emphasized the need for everyone to attach importance to serving humanity.
In another development, one of the guber aspirants, the Director General of the National Institute for legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Sulaiman Abubakar has disclosed that he will no longer participate in the gubernatorial primary on Thursday.
Professor Sulaiman announced his decision to back out of the 2027 Kwara State gubernatorial race on Tuesday.
Noting that he had joined the gubernatorial race ‘not out of personal ambition, but from a sincere desire to contribute to the progress, unity, and development of our state’, Professor Sulaiman thanked Kwarans for the support he had enjoyed after announcing his gubernatorial bid.
‘I remain deeply humbled by the encouragement, prayers, goodwill, and overwhelming support shown to me by Kwarans across Kwara North, Kwara South, and Kwara Central.
After extensive consultations and recent developments, I have decided to withdraw from the gubernatorial race ahead of the forthcoming party governorship primary’ he said.
The NILDS boss also noted that backing out of the race will not stop him from supporting the party and its candidates.
‘While I may no longer be participating in this contest, my belief in the future of Kwara State remains unwavering. I also reaffirm my loyalty and commitment to our great party, the APC, and to the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
