Kwara APC Guber Primary: Speaker Yakubu Danladi’s Candidacy Earns ‘Presidential Seal’ During Visit To President Tinubu In Lagos

Pictures that surfaced online on Sunday have made it clear that the presidency may have drawn the curtains on arguments over who should get nominated for governor by the Kwara State APC or not.

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Yakubu Salihu Danladi, who was  a few days ago declared winner of the party’s gubernatorial primary election by Chairman of the APC Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee, former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro in Ilorin, the state capital, has successfully warded off threats and had his candidacy firmly secured.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Speaker Danladi’s candidacy earned presidential seal on Saturday having gotten introduced to President Bola Tinubu as Kwara State APC guber candidate by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq with the three of them posing for pictures.

The ‘presidential seal’was a unique birthday gift as the Speaker turns 41 today, Sunday, May 31, 2026.

It was no doubt a development that will ruffle some nerves given that some among Danladi’s co- aspirants had raised their supporters’ hopes but it has ended a mirage.

Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi became the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly in 2019.

If he eventually becomes the governor of the state next year, Abdulrazaq will join the league of governors who have had the speakers of their states as their successors.

Chief Peter Odili was the first person to begin this since the nation’s return to democratic rule in 1999. While preparing to leave office as governor of Rivers State in 2007, he had wanted Rotimi Amaechi as his successor and ensured his emergence as PDP guber candidate but the declaration of his candidacy as ‘k-legged’ by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made Chief Celestine Omehia succeed him but he only spent 149 days in office and the former Transportation Minister eventually became the Chief Executive of the state.

Dr Ifeanyi Okowa also left as governor of Delta State in 2023 and had the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori as his successor.
