The leading opposition party in Kwara state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has admitted that the Geri Alimi Diamond Underpass built during the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration was a shoddy job and it was not without errors, submitting that it would also require monthly maintenance by the contractor.
A social commentator , who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Team@orientactualmags.com that this was confirmed in a statement issued by Hon Tunji Moronfoye, who is the state PDP Publicity Secretary.
He quoted Moronfoye to have said the Underpass will require some whopping millions of naira to maintain it monthly.
He also quoted a source, who is an engineer and who had explained after conducting an independent investigation, that the contractor failed to damp proof while there was also no stone base under the asphalt.
Damp proofing would have according to the engineer prevented water and moisture spillage.
The social commentator also added that the PDP Publicity Secretary had also revealed that there was a second leg to the project from Geri Alimi to General Hospital which was left undone and part of what had badly affected the Underpass.
He also accused the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration of allegedly abandoning and leaving several projects undone .
‘Governor AbdulRazaq has been putting finishing touches to these abandoned projects, including the KWASU satellite campuses (Osi and Ilesha Baruba); Kwara State Secretariat; road projects, while also initiating his own legacy projects’ he said.
He also quoted Morounfoye to have said ‘the maintenance contract for the landmark project was awarded to the same company, Duravil construction company at the sum of 1.5 million Naira monthly from May 2019 to May 2021 (for the first phase) or 18 million Naira annually…’ -. Team@orientactualmags.com
