Kwara: APC Reps Candidate Rafiu Ajakaye Promises Quality Representation, Calls For Changes In Education Policies To Improve Science Achievements

Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun APC House of Representatives candidate, Dr Rafiu Ajakaye on Monday reviewed the science education policies in the country and suggested ways the policies can be changed to improve science achievements. 

He emphasized the need for government at all levels to overhaul and restructure school curriculum, especially at basic education level with a focus on how students learn science.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Dr Rafiu Ajakaye, who said this at the Kwara Tabloid Leadership Development Roundtable held in GRA, Ilorin, submitted that it is a worrisome development that most science students at high schools do not take further mathematics.

He also recalled how it was challenging getting 16 further mathematics teachers recruited during the teacher recruitment exercise carried out by Kwara State government during Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s first term.

Dr Ajakaye also said earning a degree should not be considered as a meal ticket but rather a way of empowering students to gain confidence while emphasizing the need to become job creators and not job seekers.

Promising to ensure a quality representation, the APC reps candidate also said he will stay in touch with his constituents by organizing town hall meetings and welcoming questions and ideas.

‘I will stay in touch with my constituents. Everyone knows. that I have a personal culture, I return missed calls and I reply messages.  It is not easy but I will try to sustain it. 

Holding Town hall meetings is necessary and important because no man is an island, it will create opportunities to  interact with people and this will connect lawmakers directly with constituents..

The people will also feel truly respected and honoured’ he said.

Submitting that he cannot separate himself from the Abdulrazaq administration’s record and asserting that his former boss has done creditably well, Dr Ajakaye however noted that insecurity is a national issue and efforts are being made to tackle it.

‘We cannot do all, but we have performed substantially.

I was a part of the administration and I am proud of what we have done’ he added.

The reps candidate also submitted that studying history at high schools and higher institutions will help to stop erosion of moral values and make the young people have a feel of what happened in the past while noting that Nigerian history being in focus has made him feel happy because it will help to address inadequate understanding of ‘our history’.

He also suggested ways of securing and governing ungoverned forests in Nigeria which will help to tackle insecurity in the country..

Dr Ajakaye opined that expansion of development to such areas with special security arrangements in place will attract people to such places and the ungoverned forests will be put to good use.

 Convener of the programme, Mr Tunde Bakare said the Leadership Development Roundtable and other initiatives are being organized to promote development and progress of Kwara State while calling Ajakaye an egghead, who is a break from the past.
