Major General Yakubu Yahaya Appointed As Pioneer GOC Of Ilorin Division As Army Chief Announces Heads Of 4 Newly Established Divisions

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has announced the names of pioneer General Officers Commanding of the four newly established Nigerian Army divisions.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had a few days ago approved the restructuring of the Nigerian Army and the expansion of its force structure from eight to twelve divisions.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the announcement of the names of the heads of the newly established divisions was done via an X.com post on Wednesday.

 The Nigerian Army in the social media post in question said the new divisions will begin operations after attaining Initial Operational Capability, while deliberate measures will be taken to achieve Full Operational Capability.

‘The landmark development forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s force structure, expand its operational footprint, enhance command and control as well as improve the Service’s capacity to effectively respond to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges’ Nigerian Army submitted.

Under the new arrangement, the 1st Division Kaduna will now oversee Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States while the 2nd Division Ibadan will have Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states under its supervision.

The 3rd Division Jos will cover Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States while the newly established 5 Division Makurdi will oversee Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States.

The 6 Division Port Harcourt will oversee Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, while the 7 Division Maiduguri will have Borno and Yobe States under its supervision

The 8 Division Sokoto will cover Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States while the newly established 9 Division, Ilorin will oversee Kwara and Niger States.

10 Division Jalingo will oversee border areas of Taraba and Adamawa States while 81 Division Lagos will continue to cover Lagos and Ogun States.

 82 Division Enugu will be in charge of Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo States while 83 Division Benin City will oversee Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States.

Major General Yakubu Yahaya has been appointed as General Officer Commanding 9 Division Ilorin and Commander of Operation SAVANNA SHIELD following his redeployment from Headquarters Joint Task Force (North Central), Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife is the GOC of 10 Division Jalingo while Major General Moses Gara has been appointed as GOC 5 Division Makurdi and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE.
