Sustainable Livestock System, Social Integration ‘ll Enhance Unity, End Farmer-Herder Clashes-Gov Abdulrazaq’s Former Adviser
A former top government functionary in Kwara State, Hon Atiku Bahinda Abdulsalam has emphasized the need for an urgent transition into modern ranching and the introduction of social integration policies that will permanently resolve perennial farmer-herder conflicts and boost national food security in the country.
Hon Atiku Abdulsalam, who said this while giving his keynote speech during the town hall, Mega Endorsement and engagement event held to drum up support for the APC gubernatorial candidate, House of Assembly, reps and senate candidates in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general election, also emphasized that infrastructure development must go hand-in-hand with community dialogue, local integration, and shared economic benefits in order to rebuild trust among diverse ethnic groups.
The event held at Favour Hall, Akereviata area, Ilorin was organized by Amalgamated Fulani Socio-cultural groups that include Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Gam-Allah Development Association, Jamunaati Fulbe Association and Elite Congress, important stakeholders, youth and women groups.
Hon Atiku Bahinda Abdulsalam, who until June 29, 2026, served as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s Special Adviser on Strategy, also noted that the creation of an enabling environment for the Fulani pastoral community will make them become more productive.
‘We will like to recommend gradual adoption and expansion of modern ranching and sustainable livestock production systems, supported by adequate infrastructure, veterinary services, security, and access to markets.
The Fulani pastoral community has, for generations, sustained a vital economic activity and way of life through livestock production.
What we are advocating is the creation of an enabling environment that will allow this important segment of society to become more productive and fully integrated into modern economic and social development.
This requires security, education, healthcare, access to water, improved livestock management systems, and expanded economic opportunities.
It is also important to recognise that pastoralists have a perception of themselves and their role in society, just as other groups do.
Until we begin to understand people not only from how we perceive them, but also from how they perceive themselves, some of the challenges confronting this segment of society will persist.
Our approach must therefore be rooted in inclusion, dialogue, development, education, and mutual understanding’ he said.
Hon Atiku also recommended measures that the state government should take to ensure a comprehensive livestock development.
He listed this to include pasture development and improvement of grazing reserves, development of organized nomadic settlements with access to potable water and other basic amenities, provision of primary schools and nomadic education facilities for children in pastoral communities, establishment of Primary Health Care Centres within or in close proximity to these settlements and provision of access roads, water infrastructure, and other essential social amenities.
Hon Atiku also added that development of modern ranching systems and livestock production centres; and promotion of livestock value-chain enterprises capable of generating substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for ‘our youths and communities’, will not only enhance the welfare of livestock owners but will also significantly contribute to the economic development of Kwara State..
Commenting on the core purpose of the event, Hon Atiku on behalf of all the Fulani socio-cultural groups declared support for all the APC candidates in the state noting that this was done after carefully considering the achievements of the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration, the direction of ‘our great party’, and the need for continuity, stability, and sustained development.
‘We also call on all our members, supporters, and well-wishers across Kwara State to remain united, peaceful, and committed to the success of the APC in the 2027 General Election’ he added.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that dignitaries at the event include the state APC guber candidate, Rt Hon Salihu Yakubu Danladi, other APC candidates, the governor’s Senior Special Adviser and Counselor, Alh Saadu Salahu, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah, Dr Ghali Alaaya, Alh Dan Maigoro, Engineer Lanre Giwa, Alh Abdulrahman Agbona, Alhaji Wakili Ardo, Alh Umar Usman, Alh Abubakar Sukaba and the chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alh Garba Shehu.
Highlights of the event include presentation of cows to Kwara State APC guber candidate, Rt Hon Salihu Yakubu Danladi by Alhaji Garba Shehu and Alhaji Juli Garkowa.
