2027 Kwara Central Senate Election: Senator Saliu Mustapha Says He’ll Defeat Gov Abdulrazaq With Ease, Emerge As Early Winner Before Lunchtime

2027 Kwara Central Senate Election: Senator Saliu Mustapha Says He’ll Defeat Gov Abdulrazaq With Ease, Emerge As Early Winner Before Lunchtime

Senator Saliu Mustapha on Friday launched a scathing attack on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, accusing him of reneging on party conditions, and engaging in emotional blackmail through the use of forged documents while adding that he has left APC for PDP following a collective decision to stand against ‘internal shenanigans’.

Appearing on Seun Okinbaloye’s Politics Today programme on Channels TV, Senator Saliu Mustapha said from day one, running for the governorship was the ultimate goal, with the brief stint in the senate race meant only as a stepping stone.

The party, he added, gave Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq a clear choice to either determine who gets the Kwara State APC governorship nomination or get nominated for senate by Kwara Central APC.

The governor according to him said he will choose that of the guber candidate but allegedly reneged within weeks and eventually got the two nominations to his side, the federal lawmaker also denied having an agreement or holding discussions regarding a single-term limit, alleging that the governor fabricated the viral letter.

Noting that it was not an easy decision for him to leave the APC  he added that what he has done was a collective decision to stop shenanigans .

He contrasted his deep foundational roots with the governor’s history, recalling that while serving as Deputy National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) he had joined others in signing the historic documents that gave birth to the APC.

‘When I showed interested in going for a higher position, I was ready to spend one term in the senate and that was why from day one it was governorship position that I said I was looking for.   The party gave Abdulrahman a condition that he should choose one between nominating the governorship candidate or seeking senate nomination himself and he said he will choose that of governorship  but after two three four weeks  he reneged on the agreement.

He came back to say I had an agreement with him to spend one term in the senate let us even say I agreed to spend one term as he has claimed will that stop me from launching gubernatorial bid? There was no understanding or agreement, I never had any discussion with him or sign any agreement with him. He has gone to forge a document to say I had an agreement with him’ he said.

Asked if he was sure that the governor was the one who leaked the letter that he has doubted its authenticity?  ‘If he is not behind it who is bringing it out ? he quipped.

‘I have  done politics at the highest level, I was the Deputy National Chairman of CPC and the chairman, Mr  Tony Momoh was feeling unwell  I was one of the signatories to the document establishing APC where was Abdulrahman then ?  He was in PDP fighting against us’ he added.

The federal lawmaker noted that leaving the APC was  a collectively  decision taken by members of the G15 political group.
