Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has been commended for partnering with private stakeholders to establish the first tertiary medical training facility in the Kwara South Senatorial District.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the Founder and Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, Engineer Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, who said this during the ‘stakeholder appreciation’ dinner hosted by the institution in Ilorin, added that the initiative centers on a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upgrade the General Hospital, Omu-Aran to a tertiary health facility called ‘Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital (TATH)’, which is designed to meet the healthcare and clinical training needs of the seven local governments in the senatorial district.
Dr. Adewumi, who is also the Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete, noted that the emergence of TATH eliminates the previous burden placed on residents of Kwara South, who often had to travel to Ilorin or neighboring states to access specialized medical care, emphasizing that the collaboration between TAU and the state government marks a monumental leap in regional healthcare delivery and medical education standards.
The TAU Founder also acknowledged key institutional partners for their unwavering support including the Kwara State Government, the University of Ilorin, the Kwara State Ministry of Health, and the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board, alongside the university’s management team led by Prof. Victor Olanrewaju (Board Chairman) and Prof. Francisca Oladipo (Vice-Chancellor).
Reflecting on the journey of TAU from its inception to a recognized citadel of academic excellence, Dr. Adewumi expressed profound gratitude to the community and stakeholders who had believed in the vision despite early skepticism.
Prominent Kwarans at the event echoed the sentiments of appreciation with former Commissioner for Information, Alh. Raheem Adedoyin calling Dr. Adewumi a consummate leader and an icon of development in Kwara South who has championed ‘district growth’ in critical sectors like education, security, and economy.
Adding his perspective, the Executive Secretary of Kwara State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik described the establishment of TATH as a visionary milestone noting that having an advanced medical infrastructure and clinical training facilities outside the state capital exemplifies Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to equitable development across the three senatorial districts in Kwara State.
