2027: Wike Hits Back At APC Governors Over ‘Rainbow Coalition’ Criticism, Says He‘ll ‘Match Them Dose For Dose’
FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike has issued a fierce warning to governors elected on the platform of APC telling them to ‘stay off his lane’ while also submitting that he will match them ‘dose for dose’ if they continue to look for his trouble.
Recall that the political fireworks began on Monday night when the APC Governors’ Forum headed by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State met in Abuja. Following the meeting, Uzodimma declared that the ruling party’s governors do not support the ‘rainbow coalition’ that Mr Wike has promoted within the nation’s political landscape since last year, branding it as potentially ‘counterproductive’.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the governors have not entered into any formal agreement with any individual or opposition party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Responding swiftly on Tuesday, Mr Wike had fired back through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Lere Olayinka. While affirming that his support for President Bola Tinubu remains sacrosanct, he however clarified that he never promised anyone that his own party, the PDP, will not field candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, governorship, and House of Assembly elections.
The confrontation escalated further with a viral video of the FCT Minister laughing hysterically and issuing a direct warning to the governors while giving his speech at an event.
‘I dey on my own, they are looking for trouble where there is no trouble’ Mr Wike said in the video in question repeating, ‘When I start, hmh….’ thrice.
Later on Tuesday, while speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time, Mr Wike said the APC governors are ‘politically lazy’ saying he did not expect them to oppose the cross-party alignments.
‘They are politically lazy. When you have your local problems, don’t use Mr. President as your excuse. This thing did not start today. It started at a ministerial position. They were not happy that I was appointed as Minister of FCT. Also, they were unhappy when I was governor’ he said.
Mr Wike added that the APC governors would not complain about ‘rainbow coalition’ if they know what he knew, questioning why his alliance with President Bola Tinubu should dictate the electoral strategies of his political party.
‘I have said I will support the president and I am still supporting him. What has that got to do with my party? Take Soludo, Adeleke, and Otti as examples. Does it mean that their parties will not present other candidates?’ the FCT minister asked, while citing governors from opposition parties who have maintained a good working relationship with the federal government.
He particularly took aim at the governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressing bewilderment over what he described as an obsession with his political movements.
‘The governor of Kwara, so unfortunate. Anytime he sees a snake, it’s Wike. Anytime he sees a reptile, it’s Wike. Any day he doesn’t eat, it’s Wike.
I have never seen people who will give time to gossip more than the work they have been given. He has three serving senators, he changed all of them. He has House of Reps, he changed all of them’ he said.
The open confrontation signals a deepening rift within the political elite as alliances and strategies begin to harden ahead of the 2027 general election-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
