Ilorin, Lagos, Abuja, 10 Other Nigerian Cities Secure Spots On Oxford Economics’ 2026 Global Cities Index
Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has officially debuted on the global stage after being named among the world’s 1,000 largest urban economies. The ranking stems from the 2026 Global Cities Index published by Oxford Economics, a leading independent global economic forecasting and advisory firm
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the comprehensive index evaluates cities across five structural categories, Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance. Rather than operating as a simple population or size tally, the data-driven framework benchmarks each city’s holistic strengths, institutional resilience, and future economic potential to guide international investors, businesses, and policymakers.
A total of 13 Nigerian cities made the cut. Lagos leads the national pack at number 485 followed by the federal capital, Abuja, at 741.
Ilorin holds the 957th globally outranking several other notable state capitals including Benin City, Abeokuta, and Sokoto.
