PDP Urges ICPC, EFCC To Probe Suspicious Mass Credit Alerts To Civil Servants In Offa LG

PDP Urges ICPC, EFCC To Probe Suspicious Mass Credit Alerts To Civil Servants In Offa LG

Kwara State PDP has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to immediately investigate reports of unexplained mass credit alerts received by civil servants in Offa Local Government noting that the beneficiaries began to get receive the credit alerts on October 11.

In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Olusegun Olusola Adewara noted that the party received credible reports from multiple sources in the ancient town indicating that several local government workers, who did not make loan applications or formal requests for such payments, received unexpected credit alerts ranging from ₦80,000, N250,000 to ₦800,000  and above.

The party added that workers who got the largesse were subsequently directed to refund the money on the grounds that the credit alerts were allegedly the result of a technical error by a consultant.

PDP said these claims raise serious questions that demand urgent answers from the council chairman.

‘Who authorised the payments? Where did the money originate? What role did the consultant play, and why were public funds allegedly channeled into workers’ personal bank accounts without their prior knowledge? Most importantly, to which bank account are the workers being instructed to return the money, and who controls that account?’ the party asked.

The state PDP warned that the circumstances, if established, could raise serious integrity questions and cast an indictment on the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration about the handling of public funds and possible financial misconduct.

The party asked chairman of Offa Local Government, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun to publicly explain the transactions within 48 hours, including the source of the funds, the purpose of the payments, the identity of the consultant involved and the basis for the reported refund directive while urging the beneficiaries of the largesse to preserve their credit alerts, account statements, messages and any refund instructions, and to promptly report the matter to the appropriate law-enforcement authorities for proper documentation and guidance.

‘We cannot accept a situation in which civil servants are unexpectedly credited with unexplained sums and subsequently asked to return the money under the claim of a technical error, without a transparent account of what happened. If this was genuinely a mistake, the authorities should provide documentary evidence and follow a verifiable, lawful recovery process’ the statement said.

The party called on the EFCC, ICPC, the police and the DSS to secure relevant financial records, examine the role of the consultant and determine whether the transactions were legitimate payments-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
