Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Alkali Usman on Tuesday jointly inaugurated an ultra-modern police station in Madi , Oke-Fomo area of Ilorin to provide necessary support infrastructure to enhance and ensure effective policing in the state.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned this was also done as part of efforts to stem the tide of kidnapping cases in communities that are suburbs of Ilorin in the Oko-Olowo axis.
The police chief , who appreciated the community where the ultra-modern police station is located for presenting a gift to him and thanked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for attending the inauguration ceremony, noted that the idea of coming up with such a police station was to add value to policing system in the country while promising that there would be more of it in Kwara and other states.
He noted that the facility belongs to the public and urged the residents of the area and other Kwarans to protect it.
‘It is here to serve you, it is to serve humanity and provide security. Give the people there necessary supports and I pray it will serve the community and Kwara at large’ he said.
Giving his speech, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq ,who described the new police station as ultra-modern , commended the Inspector General for upgrading and ensuring an improvement when it comes to welfare and support infrastructure noting that it is always good and necessary to leave things better than the way he has met it like Alkali had just done.
The governor said it was a good development that Kwara was privileged to be one of the first states to benefit from the new support infrastructure improvement .
While asserting that Kwara still remains one of the safest states in the country, Abdulrazaq , who thanked the Nigeria Police Force for efforts made with regard to effective policing of the state, promised to ensure proper use of the facility.
He also promised that his administration will provide more funding to support the security agencies in the state adding that steps had since been taken in this direction in the 2023 budget proposal.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, who was represented by the Balogun Alanamu , Alhaji Usman Abubakar Jos , said though kidnapping cases had been recorded in the area, it was a good development that the Nigeria Police Force had come up with the idea of establishing a Divisional headquarters in Madi while calling for more of such stations.
Earlier in his welcome address, CP Paul 0. Odama said it was a special day in his life as a police officer.
‘Today marks another watershed in my career as a police officer, standing here to welcome the arrays of dignitaries from different walks of life especially, our indefatigable, pragmatic and a workaholic Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police, Alhaji Usman Alkali Baba psc, fdc, NPM, NEAPS, CFR, whose other name I respectfully call ‘Nigeria Police Mr Project’ to the memorable commissioning ceremony of this beautiful edifice in Ilorin, called Model Police Station which has been built across the country by the IGP.
Permit me to say that, among all Inspectors-General of Police that have been privileged to pilot the affairs of the police in the country, while appreciating the efforts of each one of them, I can state here without any controversy that none has beaten the record of Alhaji Usman Alkali Baba, in the area of promotion, welfare, provision of logistics, accoutrement discipline, team work, e-policing and the digitalization of policing in the country.
The construction of the New Model Police Stations across the thirty six states of the Federation including the federal capital territory (FCT) is one of the typical examples of the innovation the IGP has brought to bear on the Nigeria Police, in-spite of inadequate funding of the police due to the economic downturn in the country’ he said.
He assured the Inspector-General of Police of commitment to his leadership ethos while promising to religiously adhere to all his directives.
Odama also thanked the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration for giving the state command necessary supports.
‘Kwara is a state of harmony, as such the command has continued to do everything possible to make the state permanently harmonious and this effort is made possible by the support given to the Command by the Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq administration in the aspect of empowerment to the widows of slain police officers in the state, supply of vehicles, and other working tools to enhance our productivity and generally ensuring that an enabling environment is created for the police in the state to excel’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com
