The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Alh. Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman has once again, commiserated with students across the state, parents, families and friends of Olajide Blessing Omowunmi , who was raped and murdered at her residence in Tanke, Oke Odo, Ilorin on June 2, 2021.
In a statement issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr Abdulwahab Oba, the PDP gubernatorial candidate said it was sad, cruel and devastating that the life of such a brilliant, innocent student could be dastardly cut short at her prime.
Alh. Yaman said the activities of the culprits underscored the need to re-establish our traditional core values of honour, dignity, discipline and respect for the sanctity of lives at various levels of our education system.
It will be recalled that the Kwara state High Court, Ilorin had on Tuesday awarded death sentences to three among the eight people that had faced trial for rape and murder in the state capital since last year.
They were convicted of rape and murder . Omowunmi , an indigene of Oke-Opin, Ekiti Local Government, Kwara state, who was living with her elder sister, Dr. Dupe Shittu in the Tanke area of Ilorin ,was a student at the Department of Agricultural Science, University of Ilorin.
‘Concerted efforts must be made by all and sundry, especially teachers, parents and governments, to re-enact the essential decency of our people in schools, through which we can build a more prosperous state’ Yaman said.
The Kwara state PDP gubernatorial candidate commended the judiciary for expeditiously dispensing the matter and the police for the thorough investigation and the diligent prosecution.
