A faction of the Social Democratic Party in Kwara state that asserted itself as one comprising ‘original’ members of the party in the state , has claimed that those they had received into the party a few months ago, have betrayed them.
They also complained about being sidelined and not involved in party activities calling this ‘a total betrayal’ .
Comrade Mabolaje Ibrahim Yahaya, who asserted himself as Chairman of the party in the state, explained that a faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Kwara State Chapter which was then called ‘Kwara APC Loyal led by Honourable Bashiru Bolarinwa Omolaja had left the APC for the SDP sometimes in April 2022.
He added that the agreement between them was that party offices and elective positions from the ward to the state level will be shared between members of the two groups that had fused to make the state SDP become stronger.
Yahaya however expressed dismay that the original owners had gotten ‘dislodged’ adding that , ‘before the Kwara APC Loyal signified their intention to join the SDP, the Kwara State Chapter of the SDP had in place a well -organized party structures and executive members from the ward to the state level’.
‘However, in their usual acts of betrayal , immediately the APC Loyal decamped to our party, the SDP, they sidelined the already existing SDP executives led by Comrade Mabolaje Ibrahim Yahaya, bulldozed their way into buying over the National Executive of our party, the SDP in Abuja and consequently took over the party completely from those they had met on the ground.
By the above action, the original existing members of our party, the SDP in Kwara State led by me felt betrayed and frustrated’ he added.
Yahaya alleged that, the APC defectors in connivance with the National Secretariat of SDP organized a Kangaroo State SDP congress on 26th April 2022 and deliberately denied the existing members of SDP the opportunity to participate in the said congress which according to him ‘was in complete violation of the constitution of the party’.
‘The executives of SDP Kwara State Chapter led by me challenged the legality of the purported state congress of the SDP held on 26th April 2022 in court after exhausting all avenues provided by the SDP constitution to no avail.
Although judgment has been given in the case which regarded the matter before the Federal High Court as internal affairs of the party, the original SDP led by me in collaboration with our legal team are consulting and still studying the judgment with a view to deciding the next course of action’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com
