Kwara NPC Chief Emphasizes Role Of Facilitators, Enumerators, Others In Ensuring Credible Census.. Urges Trainees To Show Dedication
Census is an important development tool, and the upcoming 2023 Census should be considered as pathway to economic development as it will provide the needed platform for innovative policy solutions, Alhaji Rasaq Gidado , who is the National Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC) , Kwara state, has said.
He added that the outcome of the 2023 Census will go a long way in determining what lies ahead of Nigeria in respect of economic and social development of the country.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Alhaji Gidado said this while addressing trainees at the ongoing training programme organized for facilitators by the NPC at the Kwara state College of Education, Ilorin.
The 2023 Population and Housing Census is scheduled to hold between March 29 and April 2.
This year’s census exercise, he noted, unlike the previous ones, is technology- driven adding that the commission has come up with the Computer -Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) data collection method.
He urged Nigerians to use the opportunity that the upcoming census exercise has offered to lay a good foundation for economic development of the country cognizant that it is an important tool for government decision-making.

The NPC national Commissioner urged Kwarans to cooperate with the Census officials by giving them all necessary supports and providing required information.
He assured that the commission would give all necessary and legal supports to the census personnel especially the Supervisors, Facilitators and Enumerators in easing the discharge of their duties while measures would also be taken to ensure security and safety of those that will be posted to the rural areas.
He commended trainees attending the ten- day training workshop for their commitment and zeal and urged them to show dedication as they would be training the enumerators who would be responsible for conducting interviews with individuals and households and collect data- which is crucial to the success of the exercise.
He reminded the facilitators and anyone who would be playing a role in the census exercise that ‘this is important in history.‘.
He recalled that though census is expected to be held every ten years, the last one was however held in 2006 .
