Abia Assembly Passes Bill Stopping Payment Of Pension To Former Govs, Ex-Deputy Govs Into Law

A bill stopping the payment of pension to former governors and former deputy governors was passed into law by the Abia state House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The bill titled, ‘A Bill (H.A.B 11:) for a Law to Revoke The Abia State Governors and Deputy Governors Pensions Law No 4 of 2001 and for other Matters connected therewith’, was sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon Uchanna Okoro, who represents Arochukwu State Constituency.
The bill was passed into law during the plenary session presided over by Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa on Tuesday.
While congratulating members for getting the bill in question passed into law, Emeruwa, noted that it would reduce the cost of governance and help to redirect resources toward development of infrastructure.
He said the bill would be referred to as ‘Abia State Governors and Deputy Governor’s (Repeal) Law 2024’ once it is assented to by the governor.
