Tafidan Dutse, Maisadan Muhammad Bello is the chairman of the ADG while former Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari is the group’s spokesman.
Other members of the group include Alhaji Abass Muritala, Mallam Nurudeen Imam, Professor Usman Yusuf, Professor Sani Yahaya, Rt .Hon Emmanuel Omebije, Dr Aliyu Tilde , Abubakar Aliyu, Ibrahim Dandakata, Abba M .Muritala, Samuel Dan Auta, and Yaruwa Usman.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the development of a comprehensive reach out mechanism of propagating the tremendous endowments of the North and its people was also part of the meeting resolutions.

‘The tragic circumstances under which northern communities and citizens live are unprecedented, and they require the full involvement of all levels and the full spectrum of leadership to bring relief and an end to them. A recurring concern among most northerners is the seeming ineffectiveness of northern elders, thought leaders and other elite in terms of influencing the circumstances which place them under the mercy of armed criminals and abject poverty.
A few groups have spoken out on many occasions, but the absence of a single, even if rare voice to speak for them tends to compound the feeling of exposure and hopelessness of northerners. Basically, the pervasive perception in most of the North is that the region lacks concerned leaders and elders who should represent its interests to the limits of their capacities. In reality, however, most northern elders and elite care deeply about the state of the North, and will welcome any responsible opportunity to contribute to efforts at bringing relief and solutions to the situation.
The idea of the Arewa Discussion Group is to achieve the following objectives:
(A)Provide a platform for northern elders, leaders, other concerned northerners with influence to meet and reawaken the spirit of engagement and service for which the North was known;
Serve as a vehicle for better understanding of the state of the North and proffer possible solutions to its problems;
(B) Assure northerners that it has elders, leaders and concerned citizenry who can meet and lend their weight to the search for solutions to our problems;
(C) Examine strategies for prompting northern leaders, elders and other concerned northern citizens towards achieving cohesion and placing it at the disposal of people of the North.
(D)Develop a comprehensive reach out mechanism of propagating the tremendous endowments of the North and its people.
(E) Work with all Media outfits to develop advocacy and mobilizational materials towards achieving set socio-political northern interests.
(F) Mobilize, organize the northern demography especially women and young people who constitute the majority of the productive base of the Northern Economy for political purposes and the future of the North and the county at large.
(G) Membership of the Arewa Discussion Group cuts across all the political parties. In fact some of our members are actually founding members of Nigerian major political parties while some are apolitical’ the group submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
