ADG Congratulates 4 Popular Universities In The North On Their Golden Jubilees, Urges Support For Endowment, Research Grants

The Arewa Discussion Group (ADG), an association committed to promoting unity, education and sustainable development across Northern Nigeria, has congratulated four popular universities in the north; UNIJOS, UNIMAID, UNILORIN and UDUS on their golden jubilees.

ADG in a statement issued in Abuja by its spokesman, Dr. Garba Abari on Saturday which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com called the ‘historic institutions’ engines of regional resilience and national integration.

Dr. Garba Abari , who issued the statement on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Maisudan Muhammed Bello, Tafidan Dutse, and all the members of ADG, noted that the universities in question have continued to grow in leaps and bounds while urging stakeholders to support UNILORIN’s N50 billion endowment and the research grants for UNIJOS.  

‘The Arewa Discussion Group congratulates University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), and the University of Jos (UNIJOS) as they mark their Golden Jubilees. These institutions, established in 1975, stand as beacons of hope and progress, transforming Northern Nigeria’s intellectual landscape against formidable odds.

I. Pillars of Northern Excellence. 

1. University of Jos (UNIJOS).

   – Established in October 1975 as a product of Gen. Murtala Mohammed’s vision , it has grown from 575 students to 35,000+ scholars across 12 faculties.  

   – The institution pioneered Nigeria’s first university research policy (2011).  

2. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).

   – Nigeria’s most sought-after university for 11 consecutive years.  

   – Driving agritech innovations (e.g., drought-resistant crops).  

3. University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

   – Northeast intellectual fortress advancing conflict-resolution research.  

4. Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS).

   – Global hub for Islamic scholarship and veterinary medicine.  

II.-Shared Legacy: 50 Years of Impact.

– 150,000+ students educated collectively.  

– Research breakthroughs: Drought-tolerant crops (UNILORIN), livestock disease solutions (UDUS), conflict mediation (UNIJOS).

III. ADG’s Commitments.

1. Advocacy: Lobbying for increased security and funding.  

2. Tech Revolution: Deploying $50 million Arewa Tech Fund for smart campuses.  

3. Scholarships: Scaling AGILE’s Conditional Cash Transfers (₦60,000/year) for female students.
