Again, FG Rejects Claims Of Christian Genocide, Says Efforts Ongoing To Tackle Insecurity

The Federal Government on Saturday, once again, reacted to claims of Christian genocide in the country while noting that efforts are ongoing to tackle insecurity and ensure an end to safety fears.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), who said this while giving his speech during the coronation ceremony of Elerin of Erin-Ile, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye (Adetona I) in Erin-Ile, noted that the narrative claiming that Christians are being persecuted in the country is very untrue.

Erin-Ile is in Oyun Local Government, Kwara State and the monarch is the 21st Elerin of Erin-Ile.

Reacting to the claims of Christian genocide in the country, the minister said the killings that have been reported cut across religious and ethnic lines and did not target any religion.

‘There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria. There is no persecution of any religion, sect or ethnic nationality.

Killings are happening in Zamfara, Sokoto and other Muslim-dominated areas. That is not to say the situation is okay, but it shows clearly that violence is not targeting any religion’ he said.

Submitting that the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity in the country are already yielding positive results and asserting that the government is ‘winning the war against terrorism’, he also urged every citizen to reject the claims of Christian genocide in the country.

‘We should reject any insinuation that there is a Christian genocide in the country. The government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that killings and banditry are nipped in the bud’ he said.

Submitting that the reforms introduced by the President Bola Tinubu administration will help to build a stronger foundation for national development, the AGF also urged Nigerians to show patience with the president.

‘We all know the present situation is not rosy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel’ Fagbemi submitted while praising the choice of the new Elerin and adding that his experience would benefit the people of Erin-Ile.

He urged residents of Erin-Ile to support the monarch in driving the town’s development.

The state governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ibrahim Bata said the traditional institution remains a strategic partner in governance.

Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye, in his remarks, pledged to commit his reign to the progress of Erin-Ile, noting that youths, who constitute about 65 per cent of the productive population, would be central to developmental initiatives in agriculture, healthcare, food security and security.
