Again, Gov Obaseki Proves That He’s ‘In Charge’ As Philip Shaibu Gets Stopped From Entering Govt House

Edo state Deputy Governor, Mr.  Philip Shaibu, was stopped from entering   the Government House , Benin city on Monday.

The Deputy Governor had met his office under lock and key and the pictures taken after he had alighted from the car to find out what was happening have gone viral.

‘Up till now, I don’t have any official communication that I should relocate. The only people that have official communication are the civil servants. The civil servants have official communication, but I don’t. As I am speaking to you now, I am standing in front of the gate’  he submitted in a telephone conversation, but no one knew the person on the other side of the phone .

The deputy governor and his aides were said to have waited for about one hour before leaving.

Governor Godwin Obaseki ,who had deepened rift with Mr. Philip Shaibu   by directing that his press corps should be disbanded while requests for media coverage of his activities should henceforth be done through the Ministry of Communication and Orientation, had later taken another decisive decision.

A new office was allocated to the Deputy Governor so that he could henceforth  stay away from the Government House , Benin city.

The new office  located at No 7 Dennis Osadebey Avenue,   had served as office of the Edo state Public Procurement Office which was inaugurated by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, on December 16, 2014.

A signboard with the inscription, ‘Office of the Deputy Governor’ had been conspicuous at the entrance.

Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, did not also deny plans to relocate the deputy governor’s office from the Government House as he  had rather somewhat confirmed the relocation.

 ‘If there is a government signboard saying so, then it must be so’ he had  reportedly told journalists a few days ago.

Shaibu had apparently visited his former office to  confirm the authenticity of the ‘relocation order’ .

The relationship between the governor and his deputy had become frosty since the beginning of this year and this new development has shown that the situation subsists.

In  viral photos before the ‘relocation order’ came,  Obaseki was seen sitting with his wife, Betsy Obaseki  during a church service while a security agent standing  in front of him prevented Shuaib from going near his boss.

Obaseki and Shuaib were political godsons of Senator Adams Oshiomole but they parted ways with him ahead of the September 19, 2020, gubernatorial election.

Oshiomole ,who was then the APC National Chairman, had ensured that the governor was disqualified and stopped from getting renominated while Osagie Ize-Iyamu got the mandate to run on the party’s ticket.

Obaseki left the APC for PDP in June 2020 and his deputy, who is Oshiomole’s kinsman, also followed suit.

Shaibu is planning to succeed Obaseki next year and it has become obvious that his boss will not welcome the idea of having him as his successor-Team@orientactualmags.com
