Alleged Defamation: Kwara High Court Admits Former Rep Moshood Mustapha, Brother To N5m Bail…Case Adjourned Until July 18
Justice Muhammed Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court, Ilorin on Monday granted bail to Hon Moshood Mustapha, a former member of the House of Representatives, and his brother, Bolakale Mustapha who were arraigned on charges bordering on disturbance of public peace, false declaration, and uploading a video that could incite the public against the government online.
The defendants were represented in the lawsuit by over 30 lawyers among who are 5 Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
Although, the Director of Public Prosecution, Kwara State, Barrister Ayoola Akande had argued that charges bordering on defamation, conspiracy and incitement are serious in nature and not ‘bailable’ and asked the court to remand the defendants in a correctional center, a member of the defence team, Barrister Moses Ebuke however submitted that it is ‘bailable’.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that charges were brought against the two defendants following the petition filed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Yinka Fafoluyi on behalf of Kwara State government.
The judge has however granted them bail at a first hearing over the defamation charges..
