Alleged Land Grabbing: Wike Gets Into Heated Exchange With Military Man In Abuja…He Needs To Tread With Caution-Shehu Sanni
FCT minister, Barrister Nyesome Wike has been in the news after he got into a heated exchange with a military man in the Gaduwa District of Abuja on Tuesday.
There was an allegation of land grabbing and the minister had left his office for Plot 1946 Gaduwa District after being told that military men were occupying the disputed land.
There were tense moments involving the security agents that came with Barrister Nyesome Wike and the military men but God took control of the situation as no one drew his pistol or gun.
The visibly angry minister had faulted the decision to lay claim to the land by a retired naval officer and an unidentified senior military officer had not only prevented access but also held his ground.
He also said he is not a fool when the minister called him a fool.
The military man in question ,who maintained calm and was in control of his emotions, also told one of the security personnel that came with the minister, a policeman, that he cannot intervene because he is a junior officer.
Submitting that he was acting on orders, the military man also said ‘I am an officer. I have integrity’.
The minister made a phone call to someone and later calmly left the place and returned to his office with ‘executive’ fortitude. However, no one knew who was on the other side of the phone.
‘When they came here, I was informed that military men came to chase them away, and I thought they were acting illegally.
So, today, while I was in the office, they came to implement the directive that was given to them by me. I was told that the military had taken over the place, and I had to come by myself. It is really unfortunate’ Wike later told journalists.
He also alleged that a former Chief of Naval Staff was the one who sent soldiers to the place while submitting that nobody can intimidate him.
‘I do not understand how somebody who attained that position sees that he has a problem and cannot approach my office to say, ‘look, this is what is going on,’ but simply because he is a military man, he could use that to intimidate Nigerians. I am not one who will succumb to blackmail or intimidation.
Where are the documents? I was here, I said, bring the documents; you don’t have approval for building; you don’t have it.’ How can we continue to allow lawlessness to prevail in the country?
We are not here to cause chaos, but what I must say is that I will not allow it to happen. He will not carry out this illegal development because he is a former Chief of Naval Staff. I will not allow it’ he added.
In the meanwhile, former Senator Shehu Sani, who is a human right activist, has reacted to the heated exchange involving the FCT minister and the military man while advising Barrister Wike to tread with caution.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Sani, who reacted to the issue on X.com, insinuated that the minister had done what he did on Tuesday to gain attention but he should however make ‘military zone’ a no-go area for such a stunt.
‘Wike is doing an excellent job in Abuja but should not be encouraged to do this kind of stunt with soldiers’ the former senator submitted–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
