Applicants Say Process ‘Credible’, ‘Transparent’ As Kwara TESCOM Screens Prospective Teachers

Applicants Say Process ‘Credible’, ‘Transparent’ As Kwara TESCOM Screens Prospective Teachers

Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) on Tuesday commenced screening and interview for at least 5,290 candidates who applied for teaching appointments under the commission.

Applicants, who spoke to journalists,  described  the process  as ‘very credible, transparent, and rule-based’.

The exercise will be held daily between Tuesday February 25 and March 1, 2025.

After a thorough screening of their credentials, applicants are asked to do micro-teaching before a panel of experts drawn from colleges of education, university, and the bureaucracy.

The process is being observed by different civil society organizations.

TESCOM Chairman Mallam Bello Taoheed said the exercise will serve as a platform to select the best among the applicants in an equitable way while promising not to compromise the standards.

‘We have well over 5,000 applicants. We will pick the best 1,800 out of the qualified applicants along the criteria we have set and in a way that ensures a fair spread across the state. We want to digitize education in Kwara State. We did that in 2021, and we are building on that progress now.

We will not compromise anything; if you do not meet the criteria that we have set, you would be disqualified.

It is about credibility. His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, is a man of credibility. He has said he wants a credible exercise that is fair to all. I can boldly say that this exercise is on merit, irrespective of people’s backgrounds.

A total of 5,928 applicants were invited for the current stage of the recruitment process, out of which 5,290 have turned up as of now’ the Chairman said.

Applicants who spoke with reporters commended the government for being transparent at every stage of the recruitment process.

Kazeem Kaosara Temitope, who applied to teach Commerce, said: ‘this is the first time I have witnessed a recruitment process where they actually know what they are doing. From the point of the registration to the CBT examination, and now to the interview, I give kudos to the Kwara State Government’.

She was upbeat that she would scale this stage of the competitive exercise.

Saheed Ajanaku, who applied to teach Mathematics, said it is obvious that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has zero tolerance for academic fraud, citing how the government had similarly recruited 4,701 teachers in 2021-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
