Arewa Discussion Group Celebrates 2 ‘Extraordinary’ Northern Nigerian Women, Calls Them ‘2 Stars,1 Sky’

The Arewa Discussion Group (ADG) on Thursday celebrated two ‘extraordinary’ young women ; Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu (World English Language Champion) and Mariam Bukar (Nigeria’s Youngest Peace Ambassador) noting that they ‘symbolize Northern Nigeria’s resilience and brilliance’.

The group which has Alhaji Maisudan Muhammed Bello, Tafidan Dutse as chairman, congratulated the two young women in a statement issued in Abuja and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its Spokesperson, Dr Garba Abari while also commending them for the landmark achievements for ‘a new north’.

Alhaji Maisudan Muhammed Bello, Chairman, Arewa Discussion Group (ADG)

‘Landmark Achievements for a New North

17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu from Yobe State defeated 20,000 competitors from 69 nations at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London. Her victory—alongside teammates;  Rukayya Muhammad Fema and Hadiza Kashim Kalli—shatters stereotypes about Northern Nigeria’s educational excellence.

Also, at just 14, Mariam Bukar pioneered peace-building initiatives across conflict-affected Northern communities, earning her recognition as Nigeria’s youngest Peace Ambassador by the United Nations in 2024. Her ‘Peace Clubs’ in 30 schools have mediated youth conflicts and promoted interfaith dialogue.

Nafisa’s intellect and Mariam’s compassion represent twin pillars of Northern Nigeria’s renaissance.

One conquers global stages with knowledge; the other heals communities with wisdom beyond her years’ the statement said .

The group also acknowledged and thanked those who laid the foundation for the success recorded by Nafisa ditto Mariam.

Dr Garba Abari

‘Honoring Legacy, Inspiring Futures

The ADG’s tribute highlights:

The Power of Family: Nafisa’s parents nurtured a world champion who follows in the footsteps of Northern pioneers like the first female CJN, Mariam Muktar Aloma and UN Deputy Chief, Amina Mohammed while Mariam’s family supported her peace work amid regional unrest.

Government and  Institutional Backing: Governor Mai Mala Buni’s education reforms enabled Nafisa’s rise, while Mariam’s impact was amplified by partnerships with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Sultan Foundation.

– Symbolic Significance: Both embody ADG’s core mission: Nafisa proves that Northern excellence can lead globally while Mariam proves that its youth can rebuild nations’ the group added.

ADG also urged state governments to scale up education funding, replicate Yobe’s STEMA programme; and integrate peace education curricula to honor Mariam’s model while emphasizing the need for federal institutions to strengthen security at their respective institutions in order to protect talents like Nafisa.

The group also wants funds provided for youth-led peace hubs inspired by Mariam while corporate sector should sponsor 500 scholarships for Northern girls in honour of Nafisa;  and endorse Mariam’s ‘Peace Clubs’ nationwide.

‘Two Stars, One Sky

Nafisa and Mariam are the North that we can see: brilliant, bold, and bridge-builders. Their triumphs defy violence and underdevelopment narratives. Let their light guide our investment in every girl holding a textbook or olive branch’ the statement added-  Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
