Ballot Box Snatching: Election Results Cancelled In Kwara Polling Station
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Kwara state, Malam Attahiru Madami, disclosed on Sunday that the commission has taken a decision to cancel election results at a polling station in Tsaragi , Edu Local Government.
The commission cited snatching of ballot boxes by hoodlums.
Madami noted that this decision was in line with the rules guiding the conduct of the elections.
It will be recalled that the presidential and National Assembly elections were held on Saturday, 25 February 2023.
He attributed late arrival of INEC personnel, and materials at some parts of Ilorin West local government to subsequent late commencement of voting and hitches at the Registration Area Centre (RAC).
“It took us up till 11a.m. before finishing with the distribution of logistics and immediately I knew we will be starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person on queue has voted’ he said
The REC added that out of the 2,887 polling places in Kwara state only one polling station recorded ballot box snatching incident.
He also clarified that it was not true that the commission used vehicles belonging to a candidate of one of the political parties to distribute election materials- Team@orientactualmags.com
