Bauchi Speaker Says Rerun Of Election In 10 Polling Stations ‘ll Be ‘A Walkover’ After Getting ‘Unfavourable Court Ruling’

Speaker of Bauchi state House of Assembly, Hon Abubakar Suleiman, has lost his parliament seat.

 Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Abubakar, who represents Ningi Central Constituency , Ningi Local Government, had his victory annulled by the Court of Appeal, Abuja , on Friday.

The appellate court  has  ordered  that a rerun election should be held  in 10 polling stations in the constituency.

Abubakar was the PDP candidate in the House of Assembly election held in the constituency  on March 18, 2023.

Suleiman is the immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

The Returning Officer, Professor Shuaibu Muhammad, had declared him winner of the Ningi Central Constituency election held on March 18.

Khalid Abdulmalik-Ningi  of the APC had however faulted INEC’s decision to declare Abubakar winner of the election citing irregularities.

Abubakar Suleiman has remained undaunted, the former Speaker in a statement by his spokesman, Abdul Burra, described the judgment as a minor political setback which is not new in politics.

 He has also urged his supporters to remain calm.

 ‘Following the Court of Appeal ruling in Abuja today that set aside the judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal that affirmed the election of Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, as a member representing Ningi Central and ordered a rerun in ten polling stations, the Speaker has  urged his supporters and all people of the constituency to remain calm’ the statement submitted while boasting about Abubakar’s popularity and asserting that the upcoming rerun of election in the polling stations in question will be a walkover.

‘Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman states that the support and solidarity he has been enjoying in Ningi remain intact and no amount of effort to pull him down will succeed, he added that conducting a rerun in ten polling units that are his stronghold is just like a walkover, wondering why his opponents insisted on extending their pain of election defeat’ the statement said-Team@orientactualmags.com
