Kwara state government has announced decision to subsidize fees payable by students at public schools in the state who would be taking the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) .
A total of 55,150 candidates are expected to take the exams in question in the state.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the Press Secretary of the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development , Mr Peter Amogbonjaye said all candidates in public schools will pay N2,500 only, the same amount charged last year — instead of N5,000 or more which ought to have been reviewed owing to inflation and rising cost of conducting the examination.
‘The subsidy is part of the efforts of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to support the students and their parents, as well as prevent any student from dropping out of school on account of the inability to pay the required fees’ the statement said while adding that the subsidies will be enjoyed by all the candidates that will sit for the 2024 BECE .
The statement, therefore, warned that on no account should public officials extort money from parents noting that anyone found to have done such a thing will face the consequences of such an action- Team@orientactualmags.com
