Bola Ajibola, Who Didn’t Take Salary As Justice Minister For 6 Years,  Dies At 89

An Owu prince, Alhaji Bola Abdul Jabbar Ajibola, is dead.

A renowned lawyer, he served as a Judge of the International Court of Justice, Den Hague, Netherlands between 1991 and 1994.

The International Court of Justice comprises 15 judges elected to nine-year terms of office by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council.

Ajibola had earlier served  as president of the Nigerian Bar Association from 1984 to 1985 and  Attorney General and Minister of Justice between 1985 and 1991 .

He also served as the Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom between 1999 and 2002.

He was the Chairman of Nigerian delegation to the Nigerian-Cameroon Mixed Commission on the Bakassi Peninsula.

Prince Ajibola served as Vice President and later President of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal from 1994 to 2005; President, World Association of the World Jurists and Arbitrator, Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Dispute Commission.

The deceased jurist  founded the  Islamic Mission for Africa in 1996, and this later gave birth to the Crescent University, Abeokuta.

 Ajibola, who   established the  Crescent University, Abeokuta,  in 2005,  died on Saturday.

Team@orientactualmags.com  learned the former Justice Minister’s   eldest son, Mr  Segun Ajibola, SAN,  announced his passing in a statement issued  in Abeokuta on Sunday.

‘With very deep heart and gratitude to Almighty Allah.

Our Dad, Prince Bola Ajibola, departed this world over midnight. May Almighty Allah bless him with Aljanah Firdaus’ he wrote.

Born on 22nd March, 1934 ,  Prince Bola Abdul Jabbar Ajibola attended Owu Baptist Day School, Ago Owu and Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Ogun State for his primary and secondary school education between 1942 and 1955.

 He received a degree in law from the  Holborn College of Law, University of London  in 1962  and  he was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn on November 27 1962.

The late Ajibola would be remembered for serving as minister  for more than six years without taking a salary.

 He had directed that 35% of his salary should be returned to the coffers of  the Federal Government, Nigerian Bar Association 25% and Charitable/humanitarian organizations 40%- Team@orientactualmags.com
