Burning Resentment Pushes 15-Year-Old Boy To Attack, Kill Guardian In Kwara After Failed Poisoning Attempt

15 years old Gobir Yusuf, who could not forget past painful events and rather kept the anger fresh has attacked and killed her guardian, Mrs. A. Akanbi in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He had apparently felt deep resentment for being scolded.

The deceased woman had reportedly come to the aid of Gobir, provided shelter for him and also took care of his needs and ‘Ko ye ko je iwo lo ma pami’ meaning in English ‘You ought not to be the one who will kill me’ were her last words after the dare-devil boy suddenly hit her with a turning stick (omorogun), weighing scale and other items while she was bathing in the bathroom.

Presiding over the press conference held at the police headquarters, Ilorin on Friday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, the state police chief, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, a Commissioner of Police, said Gobir had attacked the woman directly after a failed poisoning attempt.

‘On January 14, 2026, at about 2030hrs, a distress report was received concerning the discovery of one Akanbi A (F) in a pool of blood at her residence. Police officers responded immediately and commenced a discreet investigation.

Findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased woman allegedly hid behind the door and attacked her while she was bathing. He used household items to kill her.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased person had failed. After committing the offence, he changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand. He later contacted the deceased woman’s husband, who discovered her lifeless body. The suspect remains in custody and charges will be preferred against him after the conclusion of the investigation’ he said.

.The police chief also disclosed that Ahmadu Yusuf (M) , Shehu Abubakar (M) , Mohammadu Mujuma (M) , Mohammadu Mande (M) , Umaru Bashiru (M), Juli Mohammadu (M),  Shehu Babuga (M), Muhammadu Bello Bawa (M) , Muhammadu Abubakar (M) and Muhammadu Bello (M), who are suspected kidnappers, have been arrested in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun local government while ten motorcycles were recovered from them.

‘On March 1, 2026, at about 0500hrs, a coordinated joint intelligence-led operation was executed in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun LGA, following intercepted communications revealing plans by a suspected kidnapping syndicate to infiltrate the area to service and refit motorcycles intended to be used for criminal operations.

The operation resulted in the arrest of ten suspects, including a mechanic identified as the technical facilitator responsible for maintaining the motorcycles, and the person who allegedly supplies fuel and other operational support to the syndicate.

Ten Bajaj Boxer motorcycles reasonably suspected to be operational assets for kidnapping and banditry activities were recovered as exhibits. The suspects are currently in secure custody, while in-depth and discreet investigations are ongoing to dismantle the wider criminal network and establish linkages to related violent crimes’ he said.

Mr. Adekimi Ojo also disclosed that a 23-year-old woman, Awawu Maliki Bodo, who was found in possession of a revolver and three live cartridges, has been arrested and taken into custody.

Awawu has had her name mentioned in connection with a kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing residents of Moro Local Government.

In the meanwhile, Abadulrasheed Hammed, Abdulganeey Abdulafeez and Muhammed Wahab, who are cultists, have also been arrested in Ilorin and they were found in possession of one locally made silver pistol with two live rounds of ammunition, one locally made short gun, one locally crafted pump-action single-barrel firearm, and two large portrait pictures bearing NBM secret cult insignia .

Mr. Adekimi Ojo said the success of the anti-crime efforts clearly demonstrated the state police command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in the state through intelligence-led policing and decisive tactical interventions.

‘These achievements are aligned with the strategic direction and reform-driven vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu psc, whose assumption of office signals a renewed focus on professionalism, operational efficiency, and strengthens internal security architecture nationwide.

The Kwara State police Command remains fully committed to keying into and advancing this strategic policing mandate’ he submitted while commending ‘our officers’ for ‘their discipline, courage, and professionalism in executing these operations’.

The state police command, he added, remains steadfast in ‘our constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property’ while urging citizens to continue to provide credible and actionable intelligence cognizant that ‘security remains a collective responsibility’-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
