Calls For My Sack ‘Unnecessary’, Obio/Akpor People ‘ll Continue To Determine Who Becomes Rivers Governor-Wike

FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike on Sunday reacted to calls for his removal as a member of the Federal Executive Council by some social media users in the country submitting that such a thing is unnecessary because the only person who can take such a decision if he is serving no purpose in the cabinet is President Bola Tinubu.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the minister, who said this during his thank-you visit to Obio/Akpor on Sunday, also asserted that the people of the local government will continue to determine who becomes the governor of Rivers State.

The FCT Minister later returned to Abuja on Sunday after spending 17 days in the Treasure Base of the Nation.

Addressing party leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youths, Barrister Nyesom Wike noted that in politics, it is interest that matters not sentiment.

‘There is no sentiment, there is no emotion. Politics is about interest; the interest of your people. Power is not given; we struggle for it. After all, if Donald Trump does not have the power, would he go to Venezuela to pick up a president? He wouldn’t. Because he has power, that’s why he can act.

So, for the people of Obio/Akpor, we have the power to dictate who becomes governor. All these people commenting from the sidelines, ask them if their local government, which produced only 5,000 votes, can challenge one that produced 40 per cent of the votes? Let us see how it will work.

We will use our strength to punish them. Nobody has become governor in this state without Obio/Akpor making the pronouncement. Nobody has become the senator of Rivers East without Obio/Akpor deciding. So, if you like abuse us, after abusing us, come and look for the votes—and we will punish you with the votes’ he said.

Reacting to those who are demanding his removal from Tinubu’s cabinet, Wike submitted that it is unnecessary because only the person who appointed him can sack him if he sees that he serves no purpose anymore.

‘Don’t bother about people who say ‘sack him.’ If the person who appointed me believes I cannot offer anything again, he has the right, not that you should tell him. I am proud that the people of Obio/Akpor, the people of Rivers State, and Nigerians know we have not disappointed them in the FCT’ he said.

Earlier, Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, Gift Worlu in his speech called Wike a major asset to the council, the state, and the nation as a whole.

‘When it comes to who should be President of Nigeria in 2027, we know where to go. As for the governorship of Rivers State, we know where not to go. We will not go the way of ingratitude, disappointment, or disloyalty’ the LG boss said.

Also speaking, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Martins Amaewhule said the state parliament will continue to support the President Bola Tinubu administration and the FCT minister.
